Well, yes. There is a considerable chance that you will never see Jim Shooter work again on a Gold Key character for Dark Horse. (Or on a Valiant character for VEI for that matter)400yrs wrote:I haven't read all of this thread, but is there a chance that this could mung things up for the new DH books?

The lawsuit not only asks for over million dollars in damages from Shooter but the Second Cause of Action in the lawsuit (pages 22 and 23) asks the court for a "permanently enjoining and restraining" of Shooter from working on the Gold Key characters with Dark Horse or any other "competitor" of VEI.
Hopefully the judge will strike this down immediately but if not Dark Horse's Gold Key comics by Shooter will be a no-go.

Anyone else having flashbacks to the VEI vs. VIP suit?

So? DH should hire Paul Creddick to be their EIC.Todd Luck wrote: The lawsuit not only asks for over million dollars in damages from Shooter but the Second Cause of Action in the lawsuit (pages 22 and 23) asks the court for a "permanently enjoining and restraining" of Shooter from working on the Gold Key characters with Dark Horse or any other "competitor" of VEI.

I was thinking about Valiant fans getting f-ed over when one company legally prevents another from putting out comics we've been waiting for for years.Daniel Jackson wrote:If by that, you mean it's probably going to be a long time before we see any comics, then yes.Todd Luck wrote: Anyone else having flashbacks to the VEI vs. VIP suit?

Another thing is to consider is this: Jim Shooter's reputation (or if you will his legend). For every Dave Lapham and JayJay Jackson that supports Shooter there are an equal number other creators that don't like him and some even hate him, and those creators who haven't worked with him and heard stories about what a tyrant he is and bad Marvel was when EIC, and how he failed 3 times to run a comic company after that. Plus Shooter hasn't done much to help matters when he quit The Legion of Superheroes he reported said that DC editors didn't like him because he complained too loudly.
There are of course a number of fans and creators that love him and his work but truthfully I don't think Jim Shooter attracts a lot of high-quality talent that a company like VEI would need to sell their books.
Now Dark Horse on the other hand has established a solid reputation with a number of high-quality creators and those people might be willing to work for Dark Horse just as long as they don't feel that they're NOT working for or under Jim Shooter.
So in other words for VEI to get creators that feel could help sell their comics, Shooter as EiC could be more of a hindrance than a help.

So awesome.

Hearing that kind of update makes me wanna dance like this:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8lmCju71Lcg&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8lmCju71Lcg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Especially the foward jump move at the 48 second mark.

So, I was reading some Pre-Unity Magnus the other day; I read the editorial that Jim Shooter did in like, Magnus 13 or 14...anyways, he's talking about all the negative stuff that happened to him at Marvel, and how Steve Masarsky was "different" with Valiant and how he was serious about Jim Shooter's desire to make the "right" comic company.
Just sad how Valiant turned out...and now this VEI lawsuit. WHY does business have to be so damned dirty? I mean, if Valiant had ridden the wave in the 90's, and allowed Jim to remain with the company and accomplish all he wanted, Valiant would still be here...Massarsky would have made his money ANYWAY...the Valiant books would still be as valuable...I dunno. I know i've ranted about this before...it's just irritating.
Why is it that Jim Shooter has been dumped on over and over through the years? I just wish that things would turn around for him so that he could get "the last laugh," y'know?

I just have to wonder if this is wishful thinking on the part of Dark Horse.robb77 wrote:im glad these are still going aheadjdmoonie77 wrote:I WAS AT BALTIMORE CON ON SATURDAY. tHE FOLKS AT DARK HORSE WERE SET UP THERE THIS PAST SATURDAY/SUNDAY. i ASKED IN REFERENCE TO WHEN THE GK BOOKS WERE COMING OUT. Until a cease and desist order comes down for DH, it is business as usual I would imagine. Then it would be up to DH to get an injunction against the Cease and Desist Order...and so on...FOOOK these lawyers are going to make a fortune!!!Daniel Jackson wrote:I just have to wonder if this is wishful thinking on the part of Dark Horse.robb77 wrote:im glad these are still going aheadjdmoonie77 wrote:I WAS AT BALTIMORE CON ON SATURDAY. tHE FOLKS AT DARK HORSE WERE SET UP THERE THIS PAST SATURDAY/SUNDAY. i ASKED IN REFERENCE TO WHEN THE GK BOOKS WERE COMING OUT. I read the Marvel lawsuit book last year and there was many references to how much the legal guys were rolling in from the length of the case.
Hopfully this will blow over rather quickly and we can all get back to our similar fantasies about new Valiant books.
