on a side note, I jumped onto the Valiant bandwagon late in the game. I think A&A #9 was the first book I bought off of the shelf, the rest of my collection pre has all been backissues. So Besides my copy of X0 #1 and of course the obligatory #0, I had not read the rest of the story and it was some good stuff, its been awhile since I laughed at a book because it was unpredictable.

Lydia's inconsistencies aside, (man there are some fanboys in here, it was an editorial/artist mistake. let it go) the writing of these early Valiants is certainly fun but I think rose colored glasses are used quite a bit when we place these books on a pedestal. The writing is a bit dated and certainly not pulitzer prize winning. With so many great writers in the comics field these days, I believe the new ownership is better served to avoid the big names and search out young talent out there. Fresh ideas and a new direction.

Valiant can be revamped and truly feel like these stories could be happening right outside our door.

What "mistake"? Didn't you read the editor's response, stating it was deliberate? :thumb:

I certainly don't see the resemblance between the Lydia in X-O, Shadowman and, especially, Solar.

Just checked

Shakespeare killed that Spider Alien woman in HARD Corps #7, so she couldn't have been the one from Solar.

The one from Solar was Lydia :thumb:

I'm not disagreeing, but you are aware that Solar #16 would have been printed before HARD Corps #7, right?

If Solar #16 was printed before HARD Corps #7, then the suggestion that the alien in the cell was the woman from HARD Corps #7 doesn't make sense.

HARD Corps #5, 6, and 7 make up one single arc.

I'm just saying that Solar #16 came first.
If Solar #16 was Lydia, and she died, then that's the end,
and it's not her in the HARDCorps arc.

But if you think it's her in the HARDCorps arc, then you've got to do something
about the Solar #16 story that came first.

Honestly, I doubt if I've read the HARDCorps books. Silly post-Unity commons. :D

Ah, so your posts are for BOH, not me, since he's the one that suggested that :thumb:

I don't know... I thought someone was saying that the HARDCorps books came first,
but since that's not the case, then I'm not posting anything.

I don't think that was the suggestion.

I think that BOH was proposing that Lydia was not the only Spider Alien that looked human, and was suggesting that it was possible for the woman in HARD Corps to be the woman in Solar.

I don't think BOH recalled that 1) Solar 16 came first and 2) the woman died in HARD Corps 7

It makes no difference, really.

Had I noticed, I could have said that Solar 16 came out first just like I said that Shakespeare killed her. It really doesn't make much difference because no matter which reason one notices it, the conclusion is the same, that the woman in the cell and the woman in HARD Corps are not the same person, like BOH was suggesting, which makes it clear that the woman is Lydia.

No. What I showed was that YOU said the female spider alien in SOLAR looked like Lydia. She looked like a female spider-alien, period. Similar to the one in HARDCorps, but not the same person.

But Magnusr explained that Lydia's identity was only revealed in a "Did you know" posting in the back of one of the books.

I never confused the 2. I never accused the 2 of being the same being. I just showed that Lydia was far from instantly recognizable, as that tidbit had to be revealed in the same manner, "There are no wild penguins in the VALIANT universe" had to be revealed.

Done with this now. But don't want anyone misconstruing what I meant to say, unless *i'm* the one misconstruing! :thumb:

Not at all.

I didn't need to the tidbit to recognize it, I recognized it when I read the comic because she's clearly Lydia with the clothes she had in XO but the body she had in Shadowman.

I finally picked mine up and read it. The bonus story and the new coloring were much better with this book. I found the Harbinger colors distracting so was pleased thaty the X-O was much improved.

Nobody else read this HC from the eyes of a new reader and wondered why the #0 issue is at the end of the collection?

To the uninitiated, this just seems like poor production to bring in new readers.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

Not really.

The problem with putting the zero issue first is that where it ends is not where #1 begins, which is with Aric escaping. 0 ends with him already out of the ship.

If they put it in first, then the story would repeat itself with the reenacment of the scene of Aric's adquisition of the XO and his escape.
