I'm starting to suspect exactly that. I may look into going through DCBS if this persists.400yrs wrote:xodacia81 wrote:I read Aquaman. Wait. No I didn't. Just like I read JLA. Wait, I had to WAIT for that to come in again. Just like I will with Aquaman, because the LCS didn't do the right pulls.

I did and enjoyed it very much. Only one odd piece was that that Bruce looked way too young and the guy running for Gotham mayor, Lincoln looked more the part of Bruce.400yrs wrote:did you try Batman?
The storytelling was VERY solid and the story was IMO tight as well. It left me wanting to read more.
I am reading Batman & Robin right now and just about done with it.... Hate to say it but I am liking it as well, damn Damien can't get whacked by the Joker soon enough but then again, I don't know if the Joker could pull it off. Yeah I like this book also.
Will TRY to read Resurrection Man or Nightwing tonight.

Yeah, that made me do a double take. Not sure why they designed the dude running for mayor character like that.

Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
This week:
Batman #1 - LCS got a second batch. Win me. Didn't dissapoint at all. An amzing introduction to a character that doesn't need one. Liking the look of the first arc with the cliffhanger at the end too.
Aquaman #1 - Looked awesome and had some good moments. But Johns concentrated on the fact that Aquaman has been considered a joke for way too long. Hopefully thats over and done with in the 1st issue.
Superman #1 - This took nearly half an hour to read and would probably make 400yrs head explode
There was way too much explanation. Enjoyable enough but maybe a few less words.
Flash #1 - Made me sad. Total reboot for Barry, some great art but I just didn't feel the writing was quite up to it. I'm going to stick with it (hell I've got the Bilson run) but a little dissapointed by the first issue. Maybe I just wanted it to be much better. Anyone else give this a try?

Word on your work is getting around. They mentioned it on the Fuzzy Typewriter podcast as well.
It's interesting how some of the commentors seem to be picking on the layouts and are completely missing the point. Some comic fans and creators / wanna be creators are blind and dumb.

Whenever you step "out there" you are open to criticism. Not that you (4 Hun) are picking on him, but I'mm sure some peeps might be talking junk, but that's just the way it is.

It's the internet. The comments at Bleeding Cool eventually broke down into a few people using this as yet another chance to fight old fights and grind tangentially related axes. In this case, they were worked up about piracy.Elveen wrote:400yrs wrote:Dr. Solar wrote:Looks like my efforts got picked up by Bleeding Cool.

I don't think it was too long. Aquaman is lame. He confronted that right off the bat and made him look like a toughy and also humanized him as well. I thought it was awesome. If the joke keeps going, yeah, it will get old.ian_house wrote: Aquaman #1 - Looked awesome and had some good moments. Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to stay clear.

Yes, I did. I didn't like it. Flash was my favorite DC character. The Bilson run ruined it and I haven't enjoyed any Flash stories since.ian_house wrote: Flash #1 - Made me sad. Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
I went to a shop to see if they had All Star Western and Supergirl. They didn't.
Instead, I got Justice League Dark. The art was very nice and the story was interesting. I liked the story alot. Well enough to put it on my sub..... Except for the pages where they brought in the actual JL. Those felt like throw away pages put in to sell more copies. They did the opposite for me. I will likely keep and eye on the title to find out if they are cramming more of the actual JL into this. If not, I may go back to it.

So now that all the #1's are out what does everyone think of the line as a whole. Were your expectations meet? Was this sucessfull from a writing stand point?

I will say my expectations were exceeded. This only because I said i would not get sucked into the new dcu hype (and I did), as well thought the whole line was going to be a disaster (and I find myself buying more dc than ever and enjoying a lot of what I am reading).cplsimon wrote:So now that all the #1's are out what does everyone think of the line as a whole. Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
It has made me buy more DC than ever before and so far about 60% of the line really has me wanting to stick to it - the other 40% is getting a look with issue 2 before I make my final verdict on them.
As a whole my new comic purchases have went up while my back issue purchases has went down, but still spending the same amount a month as before.

Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
With the Dark Horse Solar, Magnus etc books off my self imposed comic budget, I have picked up a couple of DC titles that I normally would not have. I would not say that this is a successful endeavor, not by a long shot.... not yet. Because I feel it is too soon to tell. It may have boosted sales but will this help DC as a whole ? That is where keeping up with nice art and interesting stories is going to pay off. I think comic book readers are always looking for something new and exciting (especially in this dead storytelling market IMO) but it will be interesting to see what the 'real result' of all this will be until 9 to 12 months from now.
That being said, I will not be pleased if I establish an inflated DC pull list just for them to either go back to the way things were before the New 52 or only use part (popular) of the New 52 as part of their 'real storyline'. I am leery of this being just like any of the numerous summer slam events where they start off great and then fizzle at the end. Marvel's Civil War is my biggest complaint as it was HUGE, it started off GREAT and in the end all I remember is that Black Goliath was killed (the brutha ALWAYS gets it, man !! LOL), oh yeah and there was some lame killing off of Captain America that was, not was, time travel bull$#it that wa... ok, that is where my memory fails as the event was immemorable.
I love how comic companies, especially DC can just take continuity and toss it to the side, wipe their @$$es with it and then come up with a similar story and try to pawn it off as a new, wonderfully smelling rose.

I noticed a lot of people got hung up on the layouts, which was entirely not the point. I knew these layouts wouldn't be that good (though actually, they came out better than I expected them to). I'm glad you, and some other people get that, at least.

It's in their 52 pick up week 4 review. Fuzzy Typewriter is a podcast of Paul Montgomery from Ifanboy. Here's the link. The discussion of the compressing is toward the beginning. I haven't actually listened to the whole thing because the reviews are a bit overly critical this week compared to early weeks.
