VERY NICE SCORE and at a great price.

Hopefully soon, I will be getting the comics that I am needing to be at (well just about) 100% on my Airboy run.

Let me know how you like that Rogue Trooper... it is by far, my favorite !

Let me know what you think of Elementals. I hope it's good 'cause I've been piecing together a complete set for the past two years or so.

I think Elementals is border-line Great! Very creative, emotional, exciting, story telling. Some VERY shocking plot lines. I am missing like 4 books from both vol1 and vol2, but I read what I had.

Good action, great character development, at times a "Marvels-esque" (K.B.) take on super-heroes.

Really, really good.

and there is some weird stuff in there, and also some.... <ahem>.... nekkid pictures.

Wow, there is really no call for that (IMO).

By all means, I am NOT the 'boyscout' of the site but geez, I think that is a bit too much.

Thoughts ?

You're REALLY offended by a comic book cover that has no exposed body parts on it? If you are saying there is "no call" for me posting that, it seemed like it was on topic as the nudity in Elementals was being discussed. I took it down since you were offended by it.

For anyone wondering what was posted, it was the cover to Elementals Sex Special #1, which pictures Fathom from the Elementals "frolicking" nude with a dolphin, but no outright nudity being exposed on the cover.

I missed you posting it but I know EXACTLY the cover in question. I read it many years ago. If someone hasn't read the series, they won't get what the cover is representing. There's no bestiality there, the dolphin turns human.

I'm not offended by it. If anything, I was more offended by the nude Razor that was posted (even with the 'black bars'. I tend to read this board at work, and there's a lot of NSFW images that pop up in the threads occasionaly that don't get tagged 'NSFW".

NO Bro J, I have NO problem with you posting it, I think anything pretty much can be posted. I am talking about the cover. I have no problem with covers that expose body parts or even outright nekkid :thumb:

My take on that is with this cover is that 'bestiality' (IMO, I used that above) is 'implied. After all it is titled 'Elementals Sex Special #1' and you got this chick looking like she is really enjoying the 'frolicking'. I know that Comico and Innovation REALLY used sex to sell their books but IMO they took it a bit too far with the drawing. I put two and two together and come up with a chick getting it on with a dolphin. AND it is a 'Sex Special'... come on, the publishers KNEW what they were doing and again (IMO), I think it deftly drifted over the line.

As far as YOU posting... HELL NO, I don't have a problem with you posting it. Please put it back up. There is nothing against you, I am referring to the publishers of that book and it's implied cover.

It is a known and documented fact that dolphins will screw just about anything... even people. Check out this article (no photos in it)

No problem with you at all Brother J... I'm just saying that the comic book company KNEW what they were doing, and I think it was a bit over the line.

Again... it is all IMO. :thumb:

sorry for the misunderstanding, I really don't want to offend anyone with cover scans. Believe me, as a collector of underground comix, I have stuff that would make the biggest perverts blush.

Has anyone actually ever read these Elementals Sex Specials? I wonder if they are just porn or serious stories.

There are supposed to be "nude" versions of all four of the Sex Special issues, as well, although I have never seen them.

sorry about that. Believe me, I wouldn't have posted the uncensored cover, as it is pretty graphic. I like Armando Huerta's work, but there is quite a bit of nudity.

I absolutely love the Elementals, all of it.
Im missing about three comics for the lot.

I too have never seen the nude variations on any of the sex specials, but recently found a lingerie sex special chicago edition that i ha no idea existed either.

Also i had trouble getting past the Fathom DOlphin cover.
Messed up nonsense.

Honestly, I have these in my DU box (not the variants) and have never really delved into the book. I'm going to try and dig 'em out and really look into the title to see why so many collect them. I think I picked them up because it was one of the 'team books'. Well, AND they looked cool. I always saw the 'sex specials' on the list and just never found any or knew what they were about... maybe I can find a digital copy somewhere and check it out. :thumb:

STILL, I heard that it was a good book.

Heck Hero Alliance by Innovation was loaded sex, sexual inuendo, nipples galore, butt shots and what not. Now I really like Hero Alliance but have to roll my eyes at the blatant appeal to the comic book nerds of the time. Can you just imagine Thursdays back in the 80's ?

"Hey Karl, did you see Kris' nipples on page 17 of Hero Alliance #4. GAWD, she is so hot.... hehe ehehee eheeh snort !!!"

Bottom line: Sex sells... but the underlying stories in Hero Alliance make up for the blatant sexual aspects of the book.

Anyone else here read or collect Hero Alliance ? (to to derail)

And again, what was great about The Elementals ?

First it is written by Bill Willingham. So that is reason enough right there.

Also, there is some plot lines and story ideas that is not your typical bad wants to take over the world, but good guy stops him.

One of the things I most like about the book is it's Marvels-esque take on super-heroes. Most of the books cover the relationships that each of the characters have with each other (or lack of relationships). Topics like loneliness and depression that each superhero has to deal with.

There also is a very interesting take on how the public deal with the Elementals. In someways it's good, B.W. covers their fame, but also someway it is bad.

Also, with out giving away a major plot line, the Elementals just can't stay in realationship to long, that is very interesting to me.

It seems, like pre-uni, Elementals cover the human side of the hero book.

And then there is just some waaaaaaaay out there bad guys and they do some waaaaaaaaay out there things. There is one scene in particular that apparently caused quite an uproar back in the day (Willingham covers it in the letters section, which you have to read, B.W. is a different dude, there are some honest answers in the letters section including B.W. pretty much saying, "you don't like, well F-you, don't buy it!")

I guess the bottom line is that it is different in the same kind of way that: Astro City, pre-uni, Fables, early Ruse, and Sandman is different. I look at those books as focusing on the characters themselves more so than what they do. If you want "bang" "pow" "smack" then maybe choose another book (don't get me wrong, it's in there, but it is not the focus)

Knightt, as you know I am selling off most of my collection of books, but there is NO WAY I am selling my Elementals books.

I'll have to dig mine out.

Hero Alliance is very much written like a behind the scenes 'after the battle' kind of book. Yes, it has fight scenes but there is a lot of interaction with characters within the team, love, lust, hate, like, trust, confusion etc.

That IS a good snag, i.e. the emotional side of books. My BEST example of this is the very first issue of Astro City. To me, that book is AMAZING.

Well, the Sex Specials were exactly what they imply they are, but if you were reading the series as a whole, they did offer some pretty intriguing side stories involving the characters. They actually were there to further the story, believe it or not.

I read the first two Sex Specials and a lot of the original issues but lost track of the series as a whole after that when I dropped out of comics for a few years.
