WARNING, I may put them into a board sale and charge MORE than I paid. Or as I call it, catch and release!
Nice snag, Woog !! Almost as good as my 81 issue snag in Vegas at $.05 cents a piece. Yep, my I always said I need more Acclaim... or was that Harada ? LOL

Still it started my Acclaim collection off nicely even when I HAD decided not to get into Acclaim. :thumb:
That's the way to do it alright. Find a friendly shop with back issues and make a deal. I ended up going back to the same store for three different trips going through this guy's back issues in his basement. In addition to the usual good stuff, I found a CEAR for $0.65.

Nice snag on the Fatale tpb too!

Best recent deal? Easily this - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1. Not the greatest picture, but the #5 and #12 were in absolutely beautiful shape. Well worth what I paid.

Went to a guy's garage last night and rummaged through about 20 long boxes of modern garbage, almost all of the good stuff was gone. But he also had a couple of boxes of hardcover books and some other stuff that hadn't been picked over. Here's what I got:

5 pulps from 1935-1954, decent condition around VG
Seduction of the Innocent 2nd Ed. with dust jacket! (1954)
Encyclopedia of Super-Heroes - oversized hardcover
Sex in the Comics - oversized hc
Marvel 50 years of comics - oversized hc
Batman Arkham Asylum hc
Batman Dracula Red Rain hc
Akira 1-10 epic issues NM
5 Marvel Giant-Size issues, all VG/F and better
Watchmen tpb - 1st print
Grendel devil's legacy tpb
Star Wars 100-107, missing 105 VF/NM or so
Magnus v. Predator 1 - signed by Lee Weeks /5000
Harbinger tpb - signed by Shooter /2000 with cert

I think that's all. Total price was $100!

I was explaining the importance of the book to the guy selling it to me, he didn't seem to know anything about it. How do you accumulate 14,000 comics in your garage and not know about SOTI's historical impact? but yet still have a copy?

Whatever, I'm going back out to his place tomorrow and getting the other 50 or so pulps I left behind last night. I think I'll offer him $200 for the rest of them, and since I already insulted him by offering $100 for the whole box, he may just bite!

Maybe I'll snag some more tpbs and hardcovers too since he's practically giving the stuff away. For a buck or two each, it's hard not to make money on those.

Great haul, Woo!

What are the titles of the pulps? I look for various ones...--Steve

Here's what I recall, but the five I got are at home right now so I can't check until later

Amazing Stories
Startling Stories
Fantastic Science
Ten Detective Stories

That's all I can recall. He had multiple issues of these titles and others. Ten or so of those half-sized pulps too, not sure of the titles on the little ones.

I guess I better start going to some yard sales... unbelievable haul Woo!

I had a few good snags from a video store going out of business: He said that the books in the box were all cover price!
Amazing Spider-Man 45, 57 and 61: 12 cents each plus tax. I felt kind of bad so I also picked up some of the wolverines in his box as well: #8 & 10. It was hard to contain my excitement as I handed over the $3 and change.

Thanks! Nice pick up yourself there. Unfortunately, I just called the guy back and someone else picked up the rest of his pulps last night. Oh well, I still got a nice deal.

If this turns out to have the special edition vol.2#1, then I would have stumbled on a deal very similar to hulk.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

I sent the guy a couple emails asking for pics of all the acclaim comics but he just said it was the special edition variant but sent a pic of number one. I tried to tell him that there's 3 covers of that issue but he retorted stating these aren't from the vol.3 series. Needless to say he doesn't know much about these books, which could be why i may get the rare special edition for nothing.

If he's got two copies of Shadoman Vol 2 #1...
then he's probably talking about about regular and painted.
But, we can keep our fingers crossed for ya... :hope:

I thought it was funny that you picked up any Amazing Stories pulps because I just picked one up from 1948 at a local auction. It was in a box of 30 magician's magazines (TOPS) from the 1940's that I bought for $5. The cover shows Earth being attacked by red spiders from Mars!---Steve

If I would have had more time, I woulda grabbed another 2-3 longboxes of material  , but I had already been there for 6 hours :!: and had things to do last night. I talked to the owner about coming back and he said the books will all be there when I get back :thumb: . Maybe in the next week or so I'll pay a return visit.
