Mario Sunshine was the only real Mario title for the Cube, which was also a shame. Smash Brothers is too amped up for my taste ... I feel like a spaz when I play that.Todd Luck wrote:Yeah, when they were dead last in the console wars with the Gamecube I remember them having stellar online play and churning out Mario and Smash Brother sequels every year.depluto wrote:Nintendo is leaving all kinds of money on the table ... they just don't seem to mind. They should be cranking out first-person titles on an annual basis for their big franchises but they seem to be satisfied with retooling all their old games. Their online setup is so far behind the other systems, but while the Wii is the 800-pound gorilla in video games not a lot is likely to change.Todd Luck wrote:It occurred to me that's a lot of money Nintendo could be making if they made an updated version of WiiSports with online play, more golf courses, etc.
I'm not saying they don't know how to make money now, it's just a shame that they can't put more effort into their top franchises like Zelda and Mario. They have the cash to afford the studio work.
Even the big third parties were reluctant to start cranking out Wii games until they realized they could spend a fraction of the money on development and start milking the cow.

I'm glad that Nintendo has been so successful with the Wii, but I am getting a bit frustrated with the lack of titles for real gamers. There is way too big a gap between the quality games being released. It's great that they have reached out to a new untapped crowd of people, but they are forgetting about the rest of us.depluto wrote:Mario Sunshine was the only real Mario title for the Cube, which was also a shame. I really hope they start focusing more on quality titles in the future.

Wii= family
That is all nintendo cares about, they have stated many times they don't care what the other competion is doing but to bring out games were they can bring the whole family together. If there is something you don't do is overestimate Nintendo, they been in this business for ALONG TIME.
Yes we all know they lack the Third Parties group well guess what it is going to stay that way until something gives because alot of the third parties still have remorse from the old N64 days when Nintendo when ahead with there cartridge format instead of CD which gave Playstation all the fire power they needed to fight along side Nintendo.Playstation gave everything the developers needed which was way easy to develope on CD format then cardridge format. The way I see it everything comes full circle.

I thought about buying a 360 in order to play more of games that I like, but I'm not spending that kind of money on a system that has had so many problems. To me, it's just not worth taking the chance.
One of the nice things about Nintendo is the durability of their consoles. I have yet to have a single problem with any of my Nintendo systems. I still have my original NES and my son plays games on it every once in awhile. Works like a charm.

Yes, 360 problems have plagued the system since the get go and that is VERY unfortunate. The new JASPER chip should take care of everything... the thing is, when you buy your system you don't know if you have that chipset or not.
I've had my newest 360 for I think just about a year now with no problems. I've added a 120 gig HD and things are just fine. Never had ANY problems with my PS3, PSP or Wii.
Have to admit, I have played WAY more games with my wife/kids on the Wii than on any of my other systems. My chief complaint about the Wii is 'give me some good freakin' games besides, Wii Play and Wii Sports, BUT they are a blast.
I don't think anybody in my family would like to play Resident Evil 5 with me anyways. I do have a group of guys from work that I play Call of Duty: World at War (the 2 zombie multiplayer modes) with but other than that... never online to play. I probably should but really like the single player campaigns. But I tell ya, those nazi zombie games are a BLAST (but you don't get any experience for playing those modes, dammit).

Not sure if I really have a problem with the games coming out on Wii. So far year (a whole whopping three month period) they've had Dead Rising, House of the Dead: Overkill, Deadly Creatures, Mad World, Mario Tennis, Pikmin, Samuri Showndown Anthology (coming out next week) on the main system; Castlevania III, Orge Battle, Life Force, Super Punch Out!, The Last Ninja and MUSHA for the virtual console and Beat.Trip, Onlsaught and Lit on WiiWare...and of course lots and lots of shovel ware. LOL
I wish there were more and I wish some of the hyped franchises on the other systems would release games on Wii (even though most don't excite me a whole lot). But it still seems like there's enough to play and, honestly, I'm actaully interested and excited about all the games I listed and I kinda have a hard getting excited about 200th first/third person shooter (though I'm sure they're excellent) on the other systems. To me, Wii is the perfect fix to the "been there, done that" feel you get after being a being gamer awhile. But, yeah, I wouldn't object to more games on the system.

The Wii is, for sure, a different and "fun" system. I think the success it has had is due to the low price point and the fact it is not only a different style of system, but that part of that style is centered on "family" or group, gathering activities. It is a system with games for "adults" but also general audiences and with multiplayer options on games which lend themselves well to, say, two parents and two kids playing a few rounds.

The price of the system has definitely gone a long way to launching the Wii into the stratosphere.xodacia81 wrote: I think the success it has had is due to the low price point and the fact it is not only a different style of system, but that part of that style is centered on "family" or group, gathering activities.
Another neat think about the Wii, you get Wi-Fi built right in. My nephew saved $$$ from his allowance plus birthday and Christmas money and bought a 360. He asked me to help him get his machine onto their wireless router, so he could play online, but it is not built in the system. You have to buy the adapter for another 90 bucks.

A used router off eBay or Craig's List flashed with dd-wrt software will do the trick for about $20 or so.Daniel Jackson wrote:The price of the system has definitely gone a long way to launching the Wii into the stratosphere.xodacia81 wrote: I think the success it has had is due to the low price point and the fact it is not only a different style of system, but that part of that style is centered on "family" or group, gathering activities.

And is the Wii really cheaper? Back at Christmas, we first got a base Wii (no extra controllers) and Guitar Hero 3. Then we returned it and got a 360 Arcade, Guitar Hero 3 and Guitar Hero World Tour (just guitar and game pack, not full band) and it was less than we paid for the Wii & GH3. Soon after Christmas, we bought a refurbed hard drive and a 2nd controller for the 360, but I think all totaled it was still less than we paid for the Wii & GH3.

Where have you been making your purchases? Around here, if I wanted to get a fully loaded Wii, I could grab it for 250.Heath wrote:And is the Wii really cheaper? $50 more than a 360.xodacia81 wrote:Where have you been making your purchases? Around here, if I wanted to get a fully loaded Wii, I could grab it for 250.Heath wrote:And is the Wii really cheaper? And is that a "fully loaded" Wii? That's the price I see for the base console with Wii Sports and only one controller. That's the price at Gamestop, Walmart, Target, etc.

Me? Not sure. Maybe one of the bundles with a second controller, more games, or a Wii Fit? I just wouldn't consider the base unit (with one controller) "fully loaded."Daniel Jackson wrote:What do you consider a "fully loaded" Wii?Heath wrote:$50 more than a 360.xodacia81 wrote:Where have you been making your purchases? Maybe xodacia81 can define what kind of "fully loaded" Wii he can find for $250?

I've have seen Wii "packages" put together where they bundle a bunch of crappy games with the system and want to charge 400 bucks it.
I noticed Younkers was selling them at Christmas and I think Amazon was selling them online too. IMO, they were just preying on desperate parents that couldn't find the regular system on the shelves during the holiday season.
