So you admit... you were attempting to derail the topic. By replying at all, to any topic, unless you are offering a directly opposing view, or merely claiming perfect agreement with the original statement, you are in effect derailing.Brother J wrote:In my opinion, topic derailment is meaningless unless it naturally flows out of the topic you're derailing away from.DJSpecter wrote:How do you not get intentional topic derailment?Brother J wrote:Did you offer to let him keep these books if you could save on the shipping costs?dino wrote:Magnus

It has to be a collective effort.
If I do it all by myself, I'm just a jerk.
Even I wouldn't like me, if I was that much of a jerk.
See, I could have said something like:
"Dino, what are you going to do with all those post Unity Magnus issues, start a bonfire?"
But see, it didn't really flow right off the cuff, it was assuming Dino was in an area where he could even START a bonfire, not good.
I don't know, maybe someone else can do a better job of derailing this "Orange Blossom Special" (sorry about this reference, I'm listening to Johnny Cash right now!)
Was that your point?

I'm just of the school that you should let topics flow where they will, as long as the subject of the thread doesn't get totally lost somewhere along the way. This topic is fine, but it would be pretty dull if it was just "Look what I got dirt cheap blah blah blah" and the only responses were "gee whiz, that's great"DJSpecter wrote:So you admit... you were attempting to derail the topic. It is the longest running thread and has the most posts and views. Maybe we should thank the person who started it. Oh wait that was me....DJSpecter wrote:I'm guessing somebody's been crossing their fingers hoping that this thread succesfully makes it to 100 pages. I've inserted insults, misspellings, rude remarks, and have mentioned a sensuous part of the body... commence the deralation.
