You know full well that the function of that "announcement" was to demonize the right. She said "half of Trump supporters" are deplorable. She wasn't saying, "oh, these specific types of bigots are deplorable." What she implies is that most of her opposition should simply be written off because they're all bigots.greg wrote:What she said was:TheFerg714 wrote:Kind of like when Hilary called her naysayers "deplorables."

That's not cool, and it's led to a very toxic political discourse in America in which the left tends to see everyone who disagrees with them as bigots, even though they usually simply see the world, and it's problems, differently.

Xenophobie is difficult to define.
There are barely any real racists in the US.

Re: Mark Waid talking Comicsgate.
"Half of Trump supporters" in September 2016 would not have been half of the eventual Trump voters. It would not include millioms of people who never said anything one way or the other about how they vote. It was the small number of people loudly proclaiming their support for Trump in September. A few thousand people, and it's very likely that she underestimated the 50%.TheFerg714 wrote:You know full well that the function of that "announcement" was to demonize the right. I can pull up my own Facebook feed from September 2016 and among Trump supporters, the rate of bigots was probably 95%. Of course, we now know that Hillary was also including Russian operatives working to get Trump elected. So, maybe they weren't bigots. They were just feeding them.

Christianphobic? Christianphobic as in: a group of 100 Americans are in a room, more than half are Christian. Most of the others don't say a word, but at some point one person says "The US shouldn't be a theocracy" and the resulting pain and agony of the clear attack on the Christians is just too much to bear, and something has to be done. When will the persecution end? You mean that Christianphobia?
In reality, the outrage is just one or two Christians "performing anger" at that one person who actually fulfilled their neverending persecution fantasy as the one or two people who think they speak for the rest of a religion? The rest of the people in the room, Christian or otherwise, agree that the US shouldn't be a theocracy.

True. What's funny to me is that Political Correctness as a means to control free speech is a problem, but it seems to be the biggest problem for the people who get mad when someone says Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.Chiclo wrote:Does the system need reform? Illegal immigration is a problem. It's against the law, and prosecution should occur for that misdemeanor. A misdemeanor... which is being enforced by separating parents from the children.
The reaction that people in charge are having to the existing problems are creating bigger new problems than the original.
Problem: There is an ant on the table!
Current U.S. Reaction: BURN DOWN THE BUILDING!

It seems like you are upset that the religious group in charge of everything isn't actually in charge of everything... like you want them to be.
Hold up, guys! Sure we're in charge of everything important, but when it comes to mainstream entertainment, we are being persecuted!
Is that what you're saying? Because that's a worse strawman than mine.

Re: Mark Waid talking Comicsgate.
We all have phobias... and most people have no idea what anyone else's phobias are. It's not having phobias that is the problem, it is irrational behavior due to personal fears. The U.S. does not prohibit the free exercise of any religion (or the right not to be religious), so the irrational behavior which falls under Islamaphobia as demonstrations against Islam (violent or peaceful) aren't a reflection of the freedoms of Americans. To say "I am an American, I am religious, and I am opposed to the free exercise of religions other than mine" is not a valid American position. To say "I am an American, I am not religious, and I am opposed to the free exercise of religions" is not a valid American position.Sven the Returned wrote:Why cannot i be afraid of a religion that treats women as chattel and i averse to freedom of speech comapred to the rest of the world this century? It is not Islamaphobia to say "I don't want Islam dictating the behavior of anyone other than those who freely choose Islam."
It is not Christianphobia to say "I don't want Christianity dictating the behavior of anyone other than those who freely choose Christianity."
It is not anti-religion to say "I don't want religion dictating the behavior of anyone other than those who freely choose religion."
All three views are perfectly fine and American.

Re: Mark Waid talking Comicsgate.
I think we should still separate the children from the adults they are found with. There is some pretty bad stuff happening in Central America and the bad people are all too eager to use kids to bad ends. If we are going to let these people (who entered illegally in the first place) remain in the country and not require them to leave the country and re-enter legally, we should at least do some due diligence and try to figure out if these people are on the level, which admittedly will be difficult in many cases as recordkeeping will not be particularly meticulous.greg wrote:True. I think people that are allowed to stay in the country after having entered illegally should be disqualified from participating in chain migration, otherwise called family reunification, whether they are children or adults.
I also think that they should make a baby jail out of Humanium. Or maybe just a door in a baby jail, since I can't find a price for Humanium anywhere and it seems like that would probably be pretty pricey.
But yes, we can handle the separation of the children better than is being done now.

Maybe we create an easier path to citizenship, whereby you have to work a longer time than a natural born citizen to receive state benefits or your social security taxes are doubled for the first ten years. Something like that.
Wouldn’t that partially solve the concerns that some is getting a free ride?
It may all be moot when AI takes over 80% of the jobs though.
