I don't think optimum NASCAR wind resistance was used in their planning.Chiclo wrote:Were I to build such a mechanical city orbiting the Earth, the best place I know of for that city to orbit the Earth would be for that object to orbit the fifth Lagrangian point in the Earth-Moon system (as long as Japan is smaller than 4% the size of the Moon), a point that drags 60 degrees (just under 5 days) behind the Moon in the arc of the Lunar orbit.
That would mean that city would be about 238,000 km above the Earth, roughly the same as the Moon.

A Lagrangian Point would be an obvious choice, but there's nothing that says it isn't a powered orbit. No power, orbit decay, fall to Earth. That would be an interesting plot imperative.Chiclo wrote:Were I to build such a mechanical city orbiting the Earth, the best place I know of for that city to orbit the Earth would be for that object to orbit the fifth Lagrangian point in the Earth-Moon system (as long as Japan is smaller than 4% the size of the Moon), a point that drags 60 degrees (just under 5 days) behind the Moon in the arc of the Lunar orbit.

I'll read this one like I've read all the Valiant titles - all the way until they cancel and renumber it and then I'm permanently done with it. Which means that in the next few months the only one I'll be reading is Rai, unfortunately.
I look at it like this.....
If I'm hungry for a good burger.... I dont care if it get served on fine china, a paper plate, or in a cardboard box, if the burger tastes good..... I'm good.
Who cares what the number on the front cover says..... I want good stories with the characters I love. That's it. If the book is good, buy if not dont.
Honestly, I just don't get it. But to each their own.
Just read this yesterday - finally got a Pullbox Plus (from Ed!) and I'm catching up on the thread. I'll post my thoughts after I catch up, but had to post my agreement with Elveen. I especially like the burger analogy.

So, at this point there isn't much to add. I will say I'm quite the Matt Kindt fan now. Unity and now Rai are in the top of VEI for me. I'm enjoying his writing so much that I'm planning on hunting down his previous work.
I don't need to heap any praise on Crain's artwork - it speaks for itself.

Wheresoever there is Chiclo, there is always math and frequently some sort of modern physics. I have found astronomy fascinating since my youth and accordingly I frequently have thoughts to contribute when the topic turns to space.kjjohanson wrote:I was told there would be no math… or astrophysics.Chiclo wrote:Were I to build such a mechanical city orbiting the Earth, the best place I know of for that city to orbit the Earth would be for that object to orbit the fifth Lagrangian point in the Earth-Moon system (as long as Japan is smaller than 4% the size of the Moon), a point that drags 60 degrees (just under 5 days) behind the Moon in the arc of the Lunar orbit.

My comment was mostly a joke, hopefully obviously. I think it's cool when people try to work out realistic possibilities of how all this stuff could work.Chiclo wrote:Wheresoever there is Chiclo, there is always math and frequently some sort of modern physics. Great book. Definitely looking forward to more, on all fronts. Both art, and story.

Great book!!
I was really am bummed I couldn't find a copy with the bonus material. None of my stores ordered it.
I completely missed that Rai had only been around for a year, I hope it wasn't a typo. Only one year old, he's just a baby Rai.

In the original Rai, he was groomed to his role as Rai.
In VEI, he must not have worked with Father (or maybe his predecessor) before taking the mantle.

What if the reason they only serve for 100 years is because after too long they go too freewill, not because they are alive, age, and die? Like Star Wars droids going too long without a memory wipe?

I thought this was great speculation by Bugsy in another thread
I think its a great idea that seems to fit the puzzle.
Harada wants a Utopia. He wants total control. He would do anything to build a world without war and murder.
He also has up close intimate knowledge of Bloodshot.
In a world where the whole Earth is being devoured by a Nuclear Apocalypse (Harada's worst nightmare coming true) it would make sense that he would try to save his homeland Japan and create this isolated country where he can have total control and use his knowledge of Bloodshot to create Rai as it's guardian.
I hope Bugsy is right.BugsySig wrote:Not sure why this just occurred to me for the first time, but I am completely sure that Harada is Grandfather and he uses Silk's mind transfer technology to keep him self alive for thousands of years and creates Rai's out of Bloodshot Nanites.

My
- I am so happy I was able track down the "bonus" issue. I loved the extra material. The map was fantastic
and I love the design work of Lulu Lemon. I hope we see more of Raul's (?) artwork. The page of the apartment building and everyone watching the show was brilliantly done.
I also thought it funny that the "Spylocke" movie was very reminiscent of 90's Image.
Like many have already said, one of (if not the) best VEI debuts. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Looks like I may not get to read this issue while wearing my Rai t-shirt when the issue gets shipped next week. DCBS still not showing that they have the Rai #1 cover t-shirt that I ordered from them. It was supposed to be out at the same time as the comic! I hope it comes in time to get included in this months shipment.

What if "Father" is Bloodshot, or at least his consciousness and nanites. Especially with the recent talk of Bloodshot being central to the universe for years to come.BugsySig wrote:Not sure why this just occurred to me for the first time, but I am completely sure that Harada is Grandfather and he uses Silk's mind transfer technology to keep him self alive for thousands of years and creates Rai's out of Bloodshot Nanites.
