X-O original art
Hoping someone can help me out with a question I have about original art. I recently purchased an X-O Manowar issue #24 page 5 original art by Diego Bernard on eBay and the picture shown for the item looks exactly like the art in the published book however when I received the page the second panel was not what was in the published book. There are 4 panels on the page and the 1st, 3rd and 4th are as published but the 2nd panel is reversed and instead of Aric holding the sword with two hands with the blade facing skyward it is being held with one hand and facing towards the ground. Is it common for artists to draw up more than one of the same page and leave one unpublished? I questioned the seller and he says he bought it from Diego and it may be an unused or unpublished page and he is going to try and find out why it's different. I believe him, however I don't know enough about the actual production of making comics from artist to printing to know if this is true. Everyone on this forum seems knowledgeable and I hope I can get an answer to this burning question. Thank you.

Not sure about this page in particular, but I do have one or two OA pages where the artist (or perhaps someone else) made some minor changes digitally after the page had already been inked. That may be the case here.

Yes... in the "old days" a page with panels might have whiteout or a new panel glued over the old for corrections. With digital it's probably easy to just draw a new panel, scan it all, and photoshop a new panel over the old. So a page that mostly matches the final page is most of the original art and a panel of "alternate/unused" art.

That makes perfect sense. Btw, I like the divinity icon for admin. I won't lie I was curious as to how the new valiant universe would answer the loss of Solar and I've got to admit I'm a huge fan of Abram.

Another question I have is (as previously stated I have limited knowledge of how the actual process of art to print works) most of the art I own is the standard 11" x 17" but some of the newer work I've purchased ( from issue #15) is in a more scaled down. Is this artist preference?

Most of my pages are 11x17, but a few are much smaller. It depends on the art board being used by the artist.AaronofDacia wrote:Another question I have is (as previously stated I have limited knowledge of how the actual process of art to print works) most of the art I own is the standard 11" x 17" but some of the newer work I've purchased ( from issue #15) is in a more scaled down.
