Re: What comics are you reading now?
In the 90's I collected almost a full run of Preacher (including one shots and minis) and recently picked up the missing issues (#1&3). I decided to re-read the whole run, currently 12 issues in and I think I'm appreciating it much more this time around. It's been that long since I read it I can barely remember most issues.
Great writing from Ennis, art from Dillon and those Fabry covers are classics!
If you haven't read Preacher then I definitely recommend it!

Read Fantastic Four #48, Moon Knight #1, the Avengers Assemble issue that introduced the Marvel Now version of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and God Hates Astronauts #1(which just came out today).
I love the Marvel Unlimited app. It's awesome.
Ryan Browne is seriously cracked. First page of God Hates Astronauts (and it only gets weirder):

It's... incredibly weird and utterly offensive, but extremely funny. I'll be reading the next issue for sure.400yrs wrote:lorddunlow wrote:

It's hilarious. It is no way for the easily offended. It is like the comic book equivalent of a Spike Jonze film only extremely funny in addition to being psychotically weird.ilzuccone wrote:dude same here! the cover is HORRIBLE. but dang i do like me some humor.400yrs wrote:lorddunlow wrote:

I'd say give it a go if you value humor above all.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Last week I picked up the last issue I was missing of the original 38 Akira graphic novels. I've worked on collecting this series for about 8 years, ever since I found a cheap bundle of #1-8 at my LCS. I have waited all this time to read any of them, I'm very excited to finally start!

It's OK but the anime is better.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Two issues from the end of V for Vendetta - so good. I had dropped off on reading this for a while. I have to be in particular mental state to read some things. Hadn't been able to properly appreciate it until tonight. Too much stress at work. I love this book so much. It is perfection of the comic book medium.
Read the latest VEI issues and commented in the appropriate threads. Great stuff as usual.
East of West #15 - whoa. The Beast of the Apocalypse = bad - *SQUEE* mother *SQUEE*.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I'm halfway through V for Vendetta; I had picked up the trade in that long-box I grabbed for $25 a few weeks back. It's great!
Re: What comics are you reading now?
Top notch comics I bought from the past couple weeks are East of West #15, Lazarus #11, Velvet #7, and The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage #1.....All 4 were excellent, with East of West, in particular, blowing me away like usual.
Sidekick #8 wasn't bad. Sidekick is an alright title from Image. It's nothing close to Straczynski's best work, but it's not his worst, either. It has enough of Straczynski's positive writing skills to make it entertaining. This title is somewhat of a guilty pleasure.
Batgirl Future's End (Gail Simone) was the only disappointing comic I bought. I enjoyed seeing Cassandra Cain & Stephanie Brown, along with the third, younger accomplice, but, overall, the writing on the book wasn't that great. The characterization was fine, it was the plot elements and the final fight scene which were crap........Gail Simone used to be a favorite writer of mine, back during her early/first stint on Birds of Prey, along with limited series titles such as Villains United and Rose & Thorn. Unfortunately, her writing has gone down the wayside for me the past few years.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Harley Quinn Invades SDCC #1-Harley Quinn goes to SDCC to try and sell DC her new comic book series "Hurl Girl" and mayhem happens. Some funny stuff (like Harley shooting a cop in the butt and doing something to a room full Joker cosplayers), but nothing really special. I get the sense that DC is trying to Harley into their version of Deadpool but this just doesn't live up to what it could have been if DC had turned the writers loose.
I'm thinking about reading Harley Quinn #5-#10 and/or Batwoman #25-#34 next.

Batwoman #25 if this what I can expect with the new writer then this book is doomed.

Just started reading my HC Batman: KnightFall collection and started on Volume 1 "Prelude."

I put together the Mega-Set with over 96 issues, I believe.
I have my work cut out for me.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I read the first issue of Wasteland. I picked up the first deluxe HC because I love Antony Johnston's and Christopher Mitten's more recent work Umbral.
I was not disappointed. It's a little bit cheating as it is a 48pg first issue, but it's one of the best first issues I've ever read. As far as first issues go, only Sandman #1 has been a better debut.
I didn't realize it was black and white, so I was a little let down by the lack of color (the colorists on Umbral do a superb job and really make Mitten's work pop), but it is great art and great story.

Hello Chris:
Didn't you bind a set of Bone books? I have always heard that Bone is a good read for both adults and kids. Would a soon to be 11 year old girl (my daughter) have any interest in this book?
Thanks,
Michael

I didn't bind a set, but have the one volume color version. I would say an 11 year girl would love this series. I feel that it us for all ages, but best for kids your daughters agemkb28 wrote:caxiotis wrote:Started reading Bone for the first time. Really enjoying it. About one and a half books in. Great stuff
