VEI preview comics - how rare are they? how many were there?

Post by AnthonyF »

I noticed a few hundred copies of Bloodshot Reborn and Ivar previews at my lcbs over the weekend, and it got me wondering... which preview books are considered "hard to find"?

Some were convention exclusive handouts while others were distributed through comic book stores.
It sounds like the Valiant 2012 summer preview book is pretty rare.
There was also a FCBD book that came out roughly the same time.

Is there a complete list of the promotional books, and if they were available only at shows, or available through stores?

I'd think they aren't all that hard to find. I mean, they print cases and cases of them and give them away at conventions.

I think these are printed in mass quantities. If I am not mistaken these are handed out and many throw them away since they are free. If you need to find them, they can be difficult to find because many do not bother keeping them.

Try to find the Harbinger Wars Sketchbook :)

The C2E2 XO-Manowar 2012 Preview are going for around $25.

Holy cow, there is actually that much action on these? I always grab random free Valiant stuff when I see it but I never expected it to go up in value.

It's always that way. Books that you pay big money for as an investment show up in the dollar bin in a couple of months later and stuff that most people consider not worth collecting ends up going for crazy money.

That's why Golden Age stuff like Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27 are so valuable. Majority of copies were trashed as they were "pulp" books.

I was going to say the same thing. Try to find one. They give them away by the thousands, but most people throw them away or just toss them around. The 2012 preview is of course my personal favorite because that was VEI first floppy/ kicking off the monthly books. It is their first comic book printed. I have told people (as a few here can attest lol) for years to watch out because this is going to be something special. I will be saying it for many more years to come. :thumb:

Venditti and Nord Signature. (Not signed from the day of the release)
Image

Back in 2013 @ Wondercon. Round #1 bonus included a signed Harbinger Wars Sketch Book provided by VEI.
I remember that this book was being given away to everyone who walked by the Valiant booth daily during the show.
