Sweet deal on that. You should be able to easily triple your money if you ever sell.

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
I never get to post here!
Just received an near complete run of Superior Spider-Man (only 6 issues short) and Amazing Spider-Man #4 (all NMish) $41.
Came out to $1.45 a book.
If I can do the same for the rest of the ASM vol 3, I'll have made a much better deal than subscribing from my LCS. Now, if the Silver Age stuff would quiet down and stop rising in price

With the spike in Valiant prices, I guess I got a good deal on these 22 Pre-Unity books for $30 shipped back in Jan:
Archer and Armstrong #0 (2 copies)
Shadowman #1 (2 copies), #2 (3 copies)
Magnus #2, 6, 9-11
Solar 2-10 (1st print)
X-O Manowar #2

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
Best Valiant deal ever today. I've taken a couple of months off buying collections as I've been travelling and super busy. Today, on a whim, I did a search for Valiant comics on Craigslist. A guy about 30 miles away listed a near complete V1 collection, plus other stuff. I meet him tonight, and he's got 5 long boxes filled with all the key V1 books except Harby 1 (stolen, apparently). The condition looks tight. I haven't poured over them yet, but they all look NM to NM/MT. The Harby Pink looks better than my 9.8 on the corners. I paid $350 for the lot, which more than I usually pay for a collection of this size, but the books are amazing. I think I have about 3 short boxes worth of Valiant 9.8 candidates. I'm pretty stoked. The gem, however, is the Acclaim Armorines 1-4. I have a 9.0 Armorines 4 (thanks to Greg), but this one looks like at least a 9.6 or 9.8 on the front.
I'm not familiar with the rest of the books. They are mostly late 90's and early 00's books. He says there are variants in there worth some money (not much), but it's just stuff I'm not familiar with. I'll have to cozy up with my eBay app in front of Better Call Saul.

Not quite the deal others are doing, but that feeling when you find gems in a long box is priceless. These two books were in a 2 books for 1 pound-box at the LSCC:

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
Given the heat on all VH1 lately, I'm pretty happy landing this lot:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/281622181683?ssP ... 1497.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Harby 1 is a low grade, but there's some sharp NM pre-unities in there!

So, I'm driving from Oakland to LA, and I decide to stop at books shops along the way. A few highlights:
Archer & Armstrong 0 Gold - NM. Probably a 9.6, but I could luck into a 9.8. $9!
Rai 9 VVSS - $3
Rai 0 - 2 copies at $5. They look like 9.8 candidates
Shadowman 8 - $2.75
Magnus 5 - $1.75
many others...

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
I got another great Valiant collection all in high grade. $260, but it also included about $100 worth of underground comix, including what I believe is a 1st print Zap #1 in VF condition. I'm at work, so I don't know how many are slabbable, but it's a good one.
Harbinger 2-7ish
Solar 9-10
X-O 2,-4
Hard Corps 1 Gold
Rai 0
Magnus 1-12ish
Eternal Warrior 1 (2), 4
Shadowman 1-3
Bloodshot 6
I need to check for coupons on all of them. I only checked a few and they were there, but you never know. I only need a couple to slab to make my money back. Bunch of other books too, including some VEI and Acclaim.
I've got another one I'm seeing on Sunday. 800ish books, including nearly complete runs of V1, allegedly in NM-MT condition. That one is much more expensive, but if the condition is there on the early books, I think I'll pull the trigger.

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
I picked up an XO #3,#5 & #6, Bloodshot #42, & a Solar #6 for $10 at my LCS. Not spectacular, but I'm happy with it - the only downside was that on closer inspection the XO 3 has a tiny piece of the cover chipped away near a staple, and the XO #6 has two deep but tiny dented imprints on the back cover.

Also, along with the above, which I picked out of a box of Valiants that had been set aside for me to check out, there was a super sharp Shadowman #8 & a decent (but slightly yellowed) RAI #0. I thought I was going to score those two for $2 apiece, but the guy checked EBay sales on all the books before he sold them to me, and the store boss wanted $25 for the Shadowman, $20 for the RAI. I passed on them.grendeljd wrote:I picked up an XO #3,#5 & #6, Bloodshot #42, & a Solar #6 for $10 at my LCS. Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
The days of finding the key books for cheap are pretty much gone by now since most dealers / stores have already heard about the Valiant movie announcement. It's not to say it's impossible to find them for cheap, but it will be harder to find them in the cheap bins going forward.grendeljd wrote:Also, along with the above, which I picked out of a box of Valiants that had been set aside for me to check out, there was a super sharp Shadowman #8 & a decent (but slightly yellowed) RAI #0. It's too bad for most of these dealers all the prime books have been plucked over the years by this board and others.Escaflown4 wrote:The days of finding the key books for cheap are pretty much gone by now since most dealers / stores have already heard about the Valiant movie announcement. It's funny, I bought VF copies of nearly all the pre Unity books in a dollar bin about 4-5 months ago. Even then, I was being choosy. Now, forget about it. The days of a store score will be much, much slimmer.

But it's blown my mind the books I've found just sitting there.

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
My local comic shop owner has been in the business 30 years, senior Overstreet advisor, two stores, etc. I saw him yesterday and he said, "Valiant's not doing so well, huh?"
I said, "Well, they got $100,000,000+ investment."
He said, "When?"
So... I guess it's still news to the guys who make their living in the industry without watching the industry.

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
LOL! I mentioned this earlier, but I bought an Archer 0 Gold in a shop for $9 earlier this week. You never know. They're still out there. I didn't even haggle. I just bought and left, along with a few other books.
Well, I did buy a large collection of Valiant this morning. The condition wasn't quite what was indicated, but I now have about 850 books of V1, including a full run of Harbinger and a few others. It was not a bargain, but then again, I've always felt that a fair deal is where both parties feel like they've been had a little bit. I might get a handful of 9.8s out of there, but that's it. Unfortunately for me, I'll be selling off some key books to pay for it. I've been on a buying spree lately, and I'm running out of my "sale" books.
Funny thing, I drove an hour to meet the seller, and he says, I know a guy in Modesto who is a crazy Valiant fan. You guys should get together. He's like an encyclopedia of Valiant. I ask him if his name is Brian, and he says, yes, I think it is...

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
I found a vol 2 Shadowman 1 special edition full-sized. Any idea if these are tougher to find than the ashcan??
I haven't taken it out of the bag and board yet, but from the front, it has 4 small light color breaking corner creases and looks to be in the NM- to NM range. Any idea on value? Not many have sold on eBay.
