I don't think the random word generator in the Valiant Idea Department is working as it should.

A small rash on my arm, but no big deal. I heard all reactions should be ignored until tomorrow anyways.geocarr wrote:Has anyone looked at the only the valiant home page today and seen their exclusive article about Book of Death?

cray_ws wrote:Damn this company needs a public relations consultant, that teaser image was horrible! Nobody is talking about it outside the niche Valiant fandom. Even within, nobody has a clue what it is. Assumptions that it might be related to SHADOWMAN which has been out of print is laughable. It's so forgettable that I don't think anyone knows who SHADOWMAN or even ETERNAL WARRIOR is. This ad is more confusing and dissuasive than sparking any intrigue or speculation that teasers are suppose to do. When the public doesn't know the pretense, its not going care about this supposed "event".
Sorry but this company is always going be clawing for pennies on a sticky floor if they go this route. There's no room for growth permanent amateurs.

Valiant seems to be doing exactly what they promised to do, Develop and Publish the Best Stories possible. They are not interested in over-marketing to grab a quick buck.
Short of something mainstream like a show or movie entering the market and capturing mass attention, there is not much that can be done to increase current non-big-two market share in this cut-throat market of such amazing and excellent titles being published by the smaller companies right now.
So.. I think they are doing exactly what they should be doing, focusing on Great Stories and letting them speak for themselves. This means lowered monthly sales, but continued ongoing collected work sales.
No need to advertise that you have a golden goose.. when you actually do.

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Re: CBR: Valiant Teases 'Book of Death'
That's what I'm now thinking. The book that was with the New Geomacer in The Box is from the future and therefore lays out the lives and deaths of all the VALIANT heroes.Keith wrote:Will Book of Death be the VEI Rai #0?
Divinity also refers to time as the pages of a book, which only touch when the book is closed. The info from the panel says the end of that series connects directly to that idea.
With Kindt writing both, perhaps these two are connected somehow?
FVL's involvement in the book is a very positive piece of news to me. As the architect of much of the past and future of the VALIANT Universe, and the writer of Timewalker, it definitely suggests a Rai #0 type layout for the future.
If it's followed up on, and continuity is maintained in future stories and series, then I think many of our recent concerns on this board may be alleviated.

Re: CBR: Valiant Teases 'Book of Death'
Trying to keep up with this as I can.
I'm honestly hoping for something of a Crisis Crossover involving Shadowman. One of my main issues with him (even before Milligan taking over) was how he seemed to exist in this tiny corner separated from the rest of the universe. I'd love to see it finally get dragged in.
Unity vs. Master Darque and a corrupted Shadowman? Should've come sooner.

Re: CBR: Valiant Teases 'Book of Death'
So the following just popped up on Twitter:
http://www.comicvine.com/videos/wonderc ... 2300-2885/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dinesh spills a lot more on Book of Death than (I think) has previously been revealed:
- It will be 8 issues. 4 issue main mini-series, and 4 one shots... The Fall of X-O Manowar, The Fall of Ninjak, The Fall of Bloodshot, The Fall of Harbinger.
- He compares it in the same ballpark as Rai 0 in regards to charting the future and showing future deaths of characters. Epic in nature, lots of easter eggs that won't pay of till several years in the future. Dead means dead, as always.
Going to toss this over into the Wondercon thread.

Then it's gotta be the book the new geomancer returned with in the cube.
Not sure how I feel about the Rai #0 angle. I remember feeling like someone had stolen something from me when I read the original. Foretelling the end of characters people love is a dangerous game.
Oh, and the link is bad. Or maybe dead is a better descriptor.

Re: CBR: Valiant Teases 'Book of Death'
Personally I hate "future" stories for specific characters. In my eyes it alternates depending on who the writer his. Just because Grant Morrison envision Damien as a Supernatural devil bargaining Batman doesn't mean that's the for sure future for the character. Feel the same here.jmatt wrote:Then it's gotta be the book the new geomancer returned with in the cube.

Yeah, sorry, they pulled the video down for some reason. Maybe they released it earlier than Valiant would have liked?jmatt wrote:Then it's gotta be the book the new geomancer returned with in the cube.

And I loved Rai #0. Knowing that the intention was these characters and this universe were planned out that far in advance made their stories feel more special. Something completely unique in comics at the time.

what exactly does the fall of harbinger entail??
the rest are characters but harbinger is just the name of the comic, not a character

Re: CBR: Valiant Teases 'Book of Death'
If I am remembering right from some article on the Wondercon panel, it was described as the final chapter of the Harbinger story, and involves Peter vs. Harada. Assume this means we'll be seeing their final fight.Brapbrap wrote:what exactly does the fall of harbinger entail??

Harbinger is the name of the foundation. If Pete decided to end the foundation in an attempt to free to children, and it's likely Harada would try to stop him. No matter who wins, that final battle could easily be called the fall of Harbinger if it brings down the Harbinger foundation.

So, if Pete shows up to destroy the Harbinger Foundation... does that make him... THE VISITOR?!?!greg wrote:Harbinger is the name of the foundation. I remember the reveal way back when and thinking "How could you? Whatever is in that costume couldn't possibly be human!"
