Hello Everyone:
In the last two days I have been able to score this treasure trove of books from Planet ComiCon in Kansas City and an on-line order. My question for you is should I sell some of these books now, to recoup my costs, or hang onto them to see what happens as more movie news come out? Re: Should I Sell These Books?
When to sell is always the big issue.
If you can sell now and get the return you want, then do it.
You can always get more books.
Having Sean (Dr Solar) work my booth with me has really helped me in this issue.
He taught me.... Basically look at the books like a commodity. Don't get emotional.
If you can get he return you want now, then get it.
I once had a walking dead #1 but was unsure if I wanted to sell it ( at the time). I knew I wanted to sell it but was unsure when. I mean it was a walking dead #1! THE modern book. I would probably never have another one.
Doc told me, don't get emotional about it. It's just a commodity.
So I sold it. And I have sold 3 others after that.
If you bought something with the purpose of selling it, then sell it. You can always get another.
(Full disclosure, I do have some books in a "do not sell box" that I am waiting to sell at a later date. But don't tell Sean)

Some of the books have gone more bonkers than others. Maybe just sell the red-hot ones? I tend to cherish pre-Unity stuff and the rest I don't have strong feelings about.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
I think we will see a cooling in the market until close to a movie launch, which is probably 2017 or later. I'm holding until then, and will continue to buy books as I had before. However, I think a lot of people will be holding books back, and there will be fewer opportunities for bargains, like the pre-unity books I've been buying for a dollar or two.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
I didn't answer your question. If you are shorting, I would see, sell, sell now. Things will cool off, and level out, but it's definitely bonkers time right now.
Or, if you have any 9.8 candidates, sell them to me!

So far we know that VEI has some money.
Some thing specific could really effect prices on certain books.

BINGO I wouldn't expect VEI or DMG to now sit on there hands. I think we will continue to see BIG announcements, If there is one thing we know Valiant is very calculated in what they are doing.Elveen wrote:Or another bump with another announcement.nycjadie wrote:I think we will see a cooling in the market until close to a movie launch, which is probably 2017 or later. Re: Should I Sell These Books?
For sure.
History has shown that VEI always has 2 or 3 announcements up their sleeve.
I'd bet this deal with the Chinese co. Has been done for a while.
I'd expect something soonish.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
I'm not convinced that another announcement will have the same impact on the back issue market ghat will be sustaining unless it is massive, like an amusement park in the US, or a non-movie related video gane. People are grabbing the big books already. The cat is out of the bag. Maybe there will be an announcement real will draw attention to a minor character, but people are already looking for those.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
I think that those people on the fence about whether this is something sustainable and will happen, will jump in with the next announcement. When that happens, I honestly think this is just a murmer of what's to come.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
I agree. Murmur.
Right now, the announcement = there will most likely be a movie.
A specific movie(s) being made = specific books = more people looking.
I think the next announcement will bring more peeps and more prices.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
Michael: Don't know if this'll help, but here goes. My wife and I bought an apartment in 03 in a neighborhood that was not a particularly safe place to live, and the unit required a lot of fixing and improving. For about 3 years, the prices of the places for sale around us were basically flat. In 07, prices shot up out of nowhere. We'd been thinking about moving for a combination of reasons, so we put the place up for sale that winter. The next spring we started getting offers that were in the range of what we wanted. My wife got a strong intuition that we should pull our place off the market, so after some deliberation, that's what we did. Then the 08 crash happened:
. We thought we were screwed. However, when the market eventually raised in 11-12, it surged back stronger than before, and that allowed us to sell and move on. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that sometimes if you use your head and your heart when making decisions about a venture that's engaged your money and your emotions, you might create a little luck.

Re: Should I Sell These Books?
Hey Guys:
Thanks for all the great feedback and the PM offers that have come in. I just got back from the Con and I picked up my 7th copy of Rai #0 and I have a few copies that are serious 9.8 contenders. The seller had at least 8 more copies, but he had already raised the price to $10 each. We worked out a package deal and I picked up two copies of Solar #10 First printing and one was already slabbed as a CGC 9.2 White pages.
I also picked up another Solar #10 First Printing from another dealer and much to my surprise, I could not find any Bloodshot #6 books.
I usually find those books all the time and pass them up.
I talked to a few dealers where I had bought VEI variants before and they said the market has dried up on the variants and they just don't have any.
Finally, in the last hour or so, I picked off several trades off my Want List:
Marvel "Guardians of the Galaxy" Abnett and Lanning Volumes 1 and 2
"The Watchmen" Deluxe SC
"Unknown Soldier" Volumes 3 and 4

I just updated the OP because several books have been SOLD.
Thanks for all the great feedback. In the end, I decided to sell off most of these books to buy some of the slabs I want to get for my collection.
