I appreciate the fact that Dysart doesn't treat us, the readers, like idiots. He doesn't have a talking head flat out tell us 'Faith is the heart and soul' or 'Harada is satan'. We know Faith is incredible because her attitude and joy are so infectious they bleed out of the pages. Harada does evil things but my feelings about him are conflicted because of what he's fighting for in the world he lives in.

There are no mouth pieces telling me how to feel, think, or judge any of the situations or characters. He tells a story that feels believable and lets us decide based off of the actions and circumstances of each chapter. These two books have dealt with drugs, murder, politics, and rape yet never had any preachy soap box moments.
