I tried out both for a little while. Spawn I started around 185. It was actually pretty cool, but it wasn't my thing so it got old. Savage Dragon was a bit more of my style, but the stories I read were a bit cheesy and the art hurt my eyes too much to continue reading it. I'd go with Spawn if I was forced to read one of them.

I read both. Id say Savage Dragon is overall the better and more consistent read.
Spawn is kinda sporadic in its direction, mostly due to different teams. Imo, David Hines run is the best of Spawn. Thats 150-185. Though its more rewarding if youve read previous stuff.

Spawns getting a new writer for 251+. Probably a good jump on point.

I built a Savage Dragon run some time back and loved it for a while. I read it new through maybe #175 or so before dropping it. It's a very classic comic book in the sense that the stories are way over the top fun. I only dropped it because for some reason I lost the enthusiasm when Dragon's son becomes the new Dragon. It's a logical story progression, and one meant to keep things fresh for Larson, but it lost me as a reader. Larson has done a great job staying on that book though, and next to maybe Spawn or Witchblade, it's one of the last comics that I feel will be published with contiguous numbering without being rebooted or whatnot.

I buy Spawn issues when I see them in the bargain bins, but I'll probably never build enough of a run to catch back up on it. I don't think I've bought Spawn regularly since issue 19 or 21 of that series when we were promised that "it will all make sense" (remember that, anyone?). If McFarlane would release a series of Omnibus editions, I'd consider buying those to read though...

To be fair, most of the long standing questions and plot threads from the early days of Spawn have been addressed by now. (hine was actually responsible for tieing up a lot of stuff during the Armageddon arc).
There is now however, a bunch of new questions that McFarlane raised during his recent run which im quite sure he never intends to answer.
Hopefully Jenkins will manage to address some of them. For all the touting of "The return of Al Simmons!", nobodies made mention of what this means for Jim...

In Savage Dragon news, im actually in the midst of collecting the entire run in back issues to get bound into a series of HCs. About half way there currently!

Much of Savage Dragon seems to have had a pretty low print run! I'm surprised you'd chew them up to be bound rather than waiting for the series to be collected...

Sometimes below 3000 issues per copy!

Theyll probably never get deluxe HCs anyway.
A deluxe Vol.1 was solicited about a year ago but never released. Larsen says hes lost a ton of the original files and theyd need to be a lot of art restoration.
Plus theres a huge gap in the trade collections.

So i thought f### it. Ill do it myself! ;)

Well, here is the post: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=44304" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

...but, I guess I am going on memory as I skipped around with the months I reported on. Seems the issues of SD I reported didn't go that low, but I do remember seeing some #s from months that didn't make it into my report be lower than 3K. I guess if you wanted to look them up on Comichron yourself, you'd see them there. At least my list above will give you an idea on when SD started to slide down. Once it got below 10K/month, aside from a few issues, it never got back above it.

I watched / read either in your repot, or elsewhere on this forum ~ from memory I also thought it was lowest at 3800. Will have to find it on the internet latter ( if its on the internet it must be true).

I do recall the thread you linked, :thumb:
