Re: What comics are you reading now?
reading all of the original sin books right now. way better than infinity (which i had to stop reading do to the anger i felt every time the heroes talked out their issues in a blackened room).
Super man doomed is surprisingly good. it's my first dc read i've enjoyed since the first couple months of the new 52.
Iron fist has a good old school flavor to it.
Trees by ellis is a must read.
southern *SQUEE* looks like it's going to be a good slow burn.

I picked up Trees as well. I think it is off to a good start, interesting premise & I liked the sci-fi flavour of the setting.ilzuccone wrote:reading all of the original sin books right now. way better than infinity (which i had to stop reading do to the anger i felt every time the heroes talked out their issues in a blackened room).

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I just bought the first 5 issues of "Velvet" and "Letter 44" and looking forward to reading both series. I also just finished reading the "Black Science" Volume 1 trade and really enjoyed the story and artwork.Cyberstrike wrote:Velvet #1-4. It's a spy comic more realistic than the James Bond movies and Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is about a female secret agent who has to come out of retirement in the late 60s after several agents are killed and she is framed for their deaths and Velvet can kick butt better than her male counterparts. I've yet to read any of Ed Bruebeaker's run on Captain America but I do find this book very enjoyable a lot of fun.

Dancer was a really cool 4 issue series from image. Great art and an interesting and mysterious lead character. Check it out!

SAGA Vol. 1 & 2 - goes without saying but this series is a lot of fun.
Sweet Tooth Vol. 1, 2 & 3 - These are some great books. Good story and Lemire's layouts are fantastic. I really like how he tells the story pictorially.

Have you read any of the Top Cow stuff recently? Judging by your pull list, you would probably enjoy a lot of what they put out. I'm really enjoying Aphrodite IX and Cyberforce. I think I would like Witchblade and the Darkness, but that's a big backlog to catch up on. I also really enjoyed the first issue of Rise of the Magi.
You should also check out Revival.
And last, but certainly not least, you MUST read East of West. It is the best comic book, ever.

I just found out Aphrodite IX was canceled.
#11 is the finale. At least they are concluding the story.
This stinks. My first cancellation.

I feel like that's been my life with comics. I've always been attracted to the fringe superhero books, i.e. Casey's WildCATS and Automatic Kafka, X-Statix.lorddunlow wrote:I just found out Aphrodite IX was canceled.

I've been informed via Twitter, there is a new series in the fall by the same team. After I catch up (I'm on issue #9), I'll have to read the news to figure out what is going on.mkb28 wrote:On a positive note, more room for your monthly comic book budget.lorddunlow wrote:I just found out Aphrodite IX was canceled.

Don't read the Image solicits. Just don't. Too many interesting books. I don't have that much money to burn on comics. Really hoping they do another Image digital sale soon.

So, it seems they are actually mimicking the VEI strategy as there is a Cyberforce/Aphrodite IX crossover this summer starting in July. It probably leads into the new series, would be my guess.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I wish someone had given me this advice last November when I picked up my first Image book...Velvet. Of course, had I not ventured off into Image, I never would have found Valiant. Instead, I'd be stuck reading more of the same X-Men and Avengers storieslorddunlow wrote:Don't read the Image solicits. Just don't. Too many interesting books. If East of West intrigues you, you need to get it. The only problem with it is it will make a few books on your list feel like you are trying to read toilet paper.

Also, you should definitely check out Revival. It's in my top five monthly reads. Great, engrossing story with wonderful fleshed out characters. There is a beautiful HC for the first 11 issues. I'm actually going to get it. I'm going to see if Mike Norton will have copies with him when he attends a small con here in September.nscc wrote:Besides VEI, I have on my pull list these ones. I do 90% of my Image comic digital only since I can buy them DRM-free directly from Image. They had a massive sale last winter and I loaded up. I hope they do the same this year.

Also, there are probably less Image comics that I don't like, than I do like. The only other publisher I can say that about is VEI, but they put out far less books.

I laughed real good at that, thanks

To clarify, I have read Eow and revival and manhattan projects and some of morning glories.lorddunlow wrote:

I just haven't bought them, but in borrowed trades or borrowed comixology account (I know, I am a terrible human being and I should be shot for violating the TOS

I might pick them up digitally though on the next sale, good idea.
My problem is my "nerd-budget" as my girlfriend refers to it, is shared with comics and MTG stuff now since my buddy got me back into it... so I have to be choosey and since my buddy buys via comixology... free is hard to turn down

Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?
