Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
magnus would be a nice addition. vei's 4001 is still pretty empty, character-wise.
solar will be "replaced" by divinity. honestly, the launch of this mini feels like vei mgmt saying farewell to the gold key characters for good.
i also think with all those movies based on old&new comics right now, it's probably almost impossible to buy any ip without way overpaying.

Honestly, I can't imagine a Valiant universe being complete without them. They are Valiant to me. That being said, I'm enjoying the new stories. It doesn't have to be the same for me, but I think they would be much richer with them.

Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
Before the relaunch, I would have voted that YES they are part of Valiant and needed to be there.
Now, I don't even notice that they are gone, and quite honestly I don't think they would feel right in this relaunch.

Nah, bugger that.
The universe is getting along grand without them as it is.

I voted no, I do not think we need them now.
Like The Beyonder, I would have thought we needed them before the re-launch. Now, I don't ever think of them at all until we have threads like this.

Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?

The no voters are more outspoken, but the yes voters are more plentiful by a wide margin. The majority is indeed sometimes silent.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
In the new Universe.. NO. It is clearly amazing on it's own.
In a continuation of a certain POINT in the old VH1 Universe.. yes.
So I voted Ice Cream.
However a Yes vote to continuing VH1 would also require a convening of a long and in depth Council to determine which books are divinely inspired of VH1 and which books are Apocrypha.
OR..
One new ongoing series (featuring the old Valiant compass for the logo even!) that focused only on casually exploring new stories from the old Universes and storylines, preferably with the original artists and writers when possible.
I know CERTAIN people wouldn't touch such a thing with a ten foot pole unless maybe they were convinced against their initial feelings with loads of ca$h, but I also have heard CERTAIN others would love nothing more than to revisit their old stomping grounds and make new stories.

Part of it is I was thinking about the trouble (legal and otherwise) Dinesh and Co. had getting this relaunch started. And now that they have a successful universe with sky-high potential, I'd like to see them continue to succeed on their own steam.

Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
Has anyone taken the position that adding the original Valiant characters would hurt the new universe?
It seems that many believe adding them isn't necessary.
An interesting poll might be, adding the characters:
(1) will hurt V2
(2) be agnostic to V2
(3) benefit V2
(4) ice cream

Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
In it's current state, at this point in time, I don't see that argument for harm.
Magnus plugs into the future w/Rai no problem.
Outside the Armor Hunters & Vine the cosmos is wide open(Divinity pending) so how does Solar hurt?
Turok, cause who doesn't like dinosaurs. The Faraway was created to sub as the Lost Land but I still don't see how it hurts.

Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
I said yes. They wouldn't have to have ongoing series, but they'd fit in as supporting characters: Magnus in Rai or Eternal Warrior, Solar in X-O, and Turok in A&A.
To be honest, though, I kind of like the Magnus series.

Ditto. Much as I love Solar and Magnus, trying to work them into the current titles might feel like they were being shoehorned into a universe that has moved on without them. The Beyonder wrote:Before the relaunch, I would have voted that YES they are part of Valiant and needed to be there.

Re: Solar, Magnus and Turok
I think it would be more harmful than helpful. But more than that, I just don't see the need for them now, nor what they offer.nycjadie wrote:Has anyone taken the position that adding the original Valiant characters would hurt the new universe?

Now that VEI is pushing into more and more characters that are fresh and new, they need lessens, and that need was pretty much done for with the world-building at the relaunch - VEI have formed a nice cohesive universe. The GK3 could fit, but really, I think the effort to do so would far outweigh the gains.
