Re: What comics are you reading now?
Feel like I'm reading too many trades right now, so I've kind of felt overwhelmed and stopped reading them for the time being. I was/am currently reading volume 4 of Waid/Wieringo's FF run, Sheltered, Pax Romana, Bedlam and Starman omnibus volume one.
I kept switching off and putting them down/picking them up and just getting lost on what was happening overall. I finished Pax Romana and really enjoyed the premise, but wasn't blown away by it. Sheltered didn't really grab me in the first two issues I've read. I've kind of forgotten where I am in Starman so I'll probably need to start that over. I've just been keeping up with the weekly floppies and lost track of all of my trade reading. Bah.

I am nearly finished reading the Stray Bullets Uber Alles collection for the first time. I think this might be one of the more underrated works in comics. Some clever weaving of storylines along with great twists and turns.

New non-Valiant books I picked up this week;
The Walking Dead #125 - unexpected, good stuff.
Invincible #110 - REALLY unexpected. Seriously.
East of West #11 - next on the to-read list.
Star Wars #16

I'm reading a Luicfer mini series written by Mike Carey, the Moringstar Option I think. It is dense without feeling crowded or slow. Really good so far.

Picked up X #12 this week along with my Valiant. This series is getting sooooo good. Getting near to be one of my favorites month in and month out. Also makes me wish the writer had stuck with Bloodshot.

I don't think anyone expected that! As usual with Invincible, that whole issue sets up a ton of awesome storylines for the future. Which is why it's the only comic that I rush to go get and read as soon as it's out!grendeljd wrote: Invincible #110 - REALLY unexpected. Seriously.![]()

Is this a new(er) miniseries or the original one done as a followup to Sandman?Elveen wrote:I'm reading a Luicfer mini series written by Mike Carey, the Moringstar Option I think. It is dense without feeling crowded or slow. Really good so far.

I can also say that it was very enjoyable. I'd recomend it as a stand alone story.

I just read Abe Sapient up to issue 8 in the main run. I'm missing a few of the miniseries though. Good stuff and I like the direction Minolta is taking Abe as more central to the entire Helboy universe.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
did anybody else read Kings Watch (I know, I know, Dynamite can suck your balls)? I absolutely loved it, it delivered nearly everything I could have asked for in a crossover between Flash Gordon, the Phantom, and Mandrake.
I think Dynamite has redeemed themselves for the turd that was Last Phantom, even though this wasn't Kit Walker. I'm even excited to see Lothar as the new Phantom, in a way it harkens back to a story from 1969 where a native helps an unconscious Phantom but doesn't actually get to put on the costume.
Kings Watch tickled all my fanboy senses (references to "defenders of the Earth", trophies in the Skull Cave, and other easter eggs) while making me hope for a new Phantom and Mandrake series to spin out of it, hopefully one with Marc Laming illustrating.

Finally read issues 1-2 of "The Mercenary Sea." The story is pretty good so far and I love the artwork. I feel like I am watching an Adult Swim cartoon on the Cartoon Network.
Any one else read the first two issues?
I also read the first issue of Saga from the Volume 1 trade. It is everything you want in a great story with beautiful artwork. I have all three trade volumes in front of me just waiting to be read!

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I have. It's okay, but one thing that bothers me about the art is the way they blur either foreground or background on some panels to give the illusion of perspective. It doesn't seem well done. (I'm a graphic artist, so I notice these things probably more than most people.)mkb28 wrote:Finally read issues 1-2 of "The Mercenary Sea." The story is pretty good so far and I love the artwork. The 1st time I looked through Saga #1 (the copies I got from Finoa herself at Wondercon, that she signed, and that I ended up selling to 4Hun for like $18 both for copies..... you did good 4Hun) I was not impressed. It just seemed wierd for kinda wierd sake.
Now..... I think it is great.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Finally got around to looking it up. The Morningstar Option is a three part mini-series included in the 1st volume of Mike Carey's Lucifer run (11 TPB's). That entire series is excellent and well worth your time and money.Elveen wrote:It's older. Black Science just wrapped up their first arc - 6 issues. So good.
It's on hiatus 'til July but I think the trade will come in the meantime. So good.
