I was at a place that must have had about 20 on the shelf.

I love how Midtown is creating a slight demand by limiting one per order on there website.Elveen wrote:I was at a place that must have had about 20 on the shelf.

There's a limit in-store, too. They've done that a bit recently with new books on which there appears to be heavily speculation. Southern Bs, Nailbiter, East of West, Walking Dead 127, a lot of the DC lenticular covers, etc.betterthanezra wrote:I love how Midtown is creating a slight demand by limiting one per order on there website.Elveen wrote:I was at a place that must have had about 20 on the shelf.

I don't think they're creating demand. I think that batches are going for $10/issue is making people think they can flip quickly, and instituting a limit allows the books to get into the hads of as many readers as possible.

Right, it's probably really good business practice too if this policy is widely-known. People will go there, knowing it's likely Midtown will have a copy available.kjjohanson wrote:There's a limit in-store, too. 12 copies of this book sell at 9.95 ea.iggy101us wrote:Adventures of Superman #14 with Joker story and cover. It sold out pretty fast. Print run for Adventures of Superman #13 was 10,045 copies per comichron in May. Monthly Batman sell around 100k copies. Not sure what print run was for #14 but it seems to be in short supply as it sold out at most LCS.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
Moon Knight. I played it. I took down 100 copies of the first issue of the current series at half off. I've sold 57 copies on eBay for more than double my money, so I've more than recouped my investment and have copies left that will sell. Right now I'm at 4.99 for Moon Knight 1. I almost ordered 100 2s as well, but at the last second I regrettably got cold feet and ended up only ordering 5. I got those from DCBS, and sold the four 2s that were NM for 14.99 ea. At that time no one had any 2s on eBay. The 5th copy from DCBS was vf, (I'm getting too many vf or vfnm books from DCBS, and miss MOC) and I moved that one for 9.99. Thecargohold recently sold 8 copies of Moon Knight 2 at 4.99 ea, and relisted more at 6.99 ea. They must've got copies on the secondary market. No chance they were sitting on those.
I've now speculated on four Warren Ellis first issues, and made money on all four. Planetary, Authority, Iron Man, and now Moon Knight. They all did well right away, except Iron Man, which I believe took me awhile to get in the money on. Iron Man is the one I almost lost on, but it got hot when they used that storyline in a movie.
If it hadn't been announced Ellis was leaving Moon Knight when it was, I would've done much better. Back issues were red hot when it was announced he was leaving, and it cooled off, relatively, as soon as that news broke. I topped out on issue 1 at 5.99. The series is continuing after Ellis leaves with a different creative team.

That is some serious work.
Nice job sir.

I'm expecting to get blasted for speculating, but I can't let my competitors do it and not ever do it myself. Similar to pressing comics. No fair if my competitors can do it and I can't.Elveen wrote:StarBrand wrote:Moon Knight. I played it. I took down 100 copies of the first issue of the current series at half off. Why would someone blast? (well I guess there is always someone)
as for pressing.... I can tell you that the BIG DEALERS do it FOR SURE. It is openly talked about in the "dealer circles".
I've never done it, but I DO know 3 peeps that have them. One dealer-friend of mine bought a pretty BIG book from me (Avengers #57) and after he pressed it he sold it for like $200-ish more than he bought it from me for.

Did you buy up Trees #1 by Ellis too? Just curious.

No. I seriously considered buying a few through DCBS but didn't. Is it doing anything?

Not sure. I listed my only copy on eBay for $7.00 shipped because there were multiple copies for pretty cheap, but I took it down after a few days. Thought I would just hang onto it and see what happens.StarBrand wrote:No. I seriously considered buying a few through DCBS but didn't. Is it doing anything?

I sold two copies of Figment #1 over the weekend for $10 and $12 and my LCS still had more on their shelf, along with about 20 copies of #2. Is there still interest being maintained in that?

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
Issue 2 is apparently even hotter than 1. Probably because the print run is much lower and the people that might be interested in it weren't aware of it.chriskay99 wrote:I sold two copies of Figment #1 over the weekend for $10 and $12 and my LCS still had more on their shelf, along with about 20 copies of #2. 1) I don't see why this book was so hot; I read the first three issues but they didn't really impress me.
2) I think there's a huge difference between ordering a ton of books in advance and grabbing stacks off the shelf. In the former scenario you didn't deny anyone a copy of the book, whereas the latter does. Occasionally I'll grab an extra copy of something that I like, but to simply clear out all of the available copies in order to sell them at a mark up to people that would have bought them is kinda *SQUEE*.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
When Bleeding Cool writes the article about the newly leaked A&A movie I expect there to be some movement on the VEI #1, plenty of variants that are already trading well - I still love the 2nd print cover as a possible star if the series ever blows up - and possibly even a trickle back to VH1 A&A 0 ... thoughts?

I'd think the VH1 book to have would be the #0 Gold
