I was tempted to post this to the Auction Hall of Wow and Disbelief! thread in Hall of Fame, but it seems any copy of this (even unslabbed and described as VF) is getting serious action:

I've got one that I estimate is a 9.4. I'm thinking I'm going to sell soon.
Good idea, though I wonder if it will go for more in a month, when the movie draws closer.

Maybe I should throw it up on eBay with a ridiculous BIN and Best Offer and see what sort of offers it gets.StarBrand wrote:kjjohanson wrote:There's an eBay auction of a CGC 8.5 copy of Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008) that's currently at $56 with a few hours to go:

Yep, that book's been steady in the $50-100 range for a little while now.kjjohanson wrote:Maybe I should throw it up on eBay with a ridiculous BIN and Best Offer and see what sort of offers it gets.StarBrand wrote:kjjohanson wrote:There's an eBay auction of a CGC 8.5 copy of Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008) that's currently at $56 with a few hours to go:

The Starlord:Annihilation Conquest limited series might be one to watch. That's where Starlord hooks up with Rocket & Groot for the first time. This series is surprisingly affordable in comparison to GOTG # 1 and it came out many months earlier.

I'm surprised the 1990 #1 GOTG hasn't seen more of an uptick in price.

I *have* seen a few auctions where mid-to-high grade copies were getting close to $10. It doesn't surprise me that there's not much movement. A couple things:GGSAE wrote:I'm surprised the 1990 #1 GOTG hasn't seen more of an uptick in price.
• that was during the glut
• it's not the team that's in the movie. We may see something going with the new series of the future team that's supposed to be coming, but still, there's no movie to give that team a push

I just took a look and I'm a little surprised at the action it's been getting on eBay. I still think that given a little time we're not going to see very high prices for this book. I'm really interested in seeing what the first issue print run looks like.StarBrand wrote:Outcast has hit the ground running.StarBrand wrote:Kirkman's Outcast could hit the ground running.

1990, so I don't see the print runs being that high, and it was a lesser title, but I have no facts on the actual print run. That and the copper age books have been heating up for a number of months now.kjjohanson wrote:I *have* seen a few auctions where mid-to-high grade copies were getting close to $10. Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
I don't know the actual numbers either, but in general (Marvel or DC) first issues from the late '80s or early '90s are going to have fairly high print runs because there was a fair amount of attention to the perceived value of first issue then. I started reading and collecting some time around 1987 or so, and one of the shops I regularly visited had the option on their pull list of "all #1 issues." I imagine a lot of people grabbed first issues even if they didn't subsequently follow the series.GGSAE wrote:1990, so I don't see the print runs being that high, and it was a lesser title, but I have no facts on the actual print run. Not that I don't want to see this book get some action. I plan on selling off all of my GOTG books while it's getting all this attention.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
Prices on a CGC 9.8 #1 GOTG have been pretty high for months now. Outlandish, actually. The last few issues of that series are tough to find the way that the last few of Warlock & The Infinity Watch and Silver Surfer are.
There are also a lot of sellers asking 6 to 20 bucks for an Avengers #257 as well. I don't know if any of them are seeing it in exchange though. Also, I've said it before in this thread somewhere and I'll say it again, Hulk #234 and Cap #217 are inflating and I have seen people are getting their prices for those books.
Also, the mainstream belief is that Rocket's first appearance was Hulk #271, but it's not. Marvel Preview #7 predates that book by years. On a brick 'n mortar note, several of the well known comic shops in my area are indeed pushing Hulk #271 as Rocket's first appearance as well. Graham Crackers, Dreamland, and Unicorn Comics among them. Terry who owns Unicorn was telling me that he must have had 4 or 5 copies of Hulk #271 in his back issue bins for years at maybe 3 bucks but then the current craze drove his high grade copies up to around $150 on his wall, and apparently he's been getting it. His prediction was that it will drop to a twenty dollar book after the movie hype dies. It's hard to say if I agree with that or not, because most of the other Marvel movies were rooted in Silver Age characters with higher holding value than GoTG which is mostly a Bronze and Copper era draw.
I'm curious as to how Strange Tales #180 and Fantastic Four #65 will continue to fare.

I guess Hulk 271 would be the first appearance in a comic, rather than a magazine?IMJ wrote:Prices on a CGC 9.8 #1 GOTG have been pretty high for months now. Outlandish, actually. Hm. True, ya. I guess this is like Battlechasers appearing in Fantasy Illustrated before Battlechasers #1 or whatnot...kjjohanson wrote:I guess Hulk 271 would be the first appearance in a comic, rather than a magazine?
Either way though, the market is talking on this one and Hulk #271 is the book to have.

15 ten-packs of Outcast 1 sell out at 100.00 ea, as one buyer snaps up the final 3.

Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
I saw stacks of this at the LCS and passed. It seems like a race to see who can unload them all first. I wonder how many actual readers are there and what the print run is.
Re: Discuss Hard To Find Or Currently Hot Modern Comics
There were no incentive variants, so whatever the print run is, it would have been substantially higher if there had been incentives. Also, it did sell out from Diamond a day before it's release. By the way, I'm holding my copies for now, not unloading them. I'm often a bit of a contrarian.iggy101us wrote:I saw stacks of this at the LCS and passed. When the speculation phase is over it's going to be interesting to see how many dealers are out of the book, and if it was able to break through the ten dollar per copy barrier. Right now speculation on eBay remains strong, as does supply. Can the current demand for it break down the supply?kjjohanson wrote:StarBrand wrote:Wantedcomix blew through their available single copies of Outcast 1. With Kirkman writing Outcast, there's also always the chance it's actually a really good book, too.

Adventures of Superman #14 with Joker story and cover. It sold out pretty fast. Print run for Adventures of Superman #13 was 10,045 copies per comichron in May. Monthly Batman sell around 100k copies. Not sure what print run was for #14 but it seems to be in short supply as it sold out at most LCS.
