Confirmation: Archer & Armstrong #25
The most recent Compass Points in back of Bloodshot & H.A.R.D. Corps #22 (and I suspect Q&W #10) discusses the upcoming X-O and Harby #25 issues. The last paragraph reads:
But we're most excited about Archer & Armstrong #25... which we'd love to tell you all about, but then we'd have to somethingsomething you, and make sure the Sect doesn't evenmoresomethingsomething or reveal that Archer's secret taco and that's the reason Armstrong isn't really Canadian after all.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

of course he's not Canadian. Canada didn't exist until 1867. He's obviously Samoan.

Great pick up! I never read those things.
Glad to hear it will return after The Delinquents...hopefully with FVL still at the helm.

Very good to hear. Hopefully something similar happening with Harbinger after the Omegas mini? This gives credence to Pixierosa's report from the con where VEI said nothing is cancelled, just some things taking a back seat for a while but then returning later.
*Edit: So, this news plus the previous interview (here: http://www.nerdist.com/2014/03/exclusiv ... wasteland/) with FVL stating that he is wrapping up his time on the title tends to point towards it returning with a new writer, yes? Whomever it is will have some big FVL sized shoes to fill.

Agreed... FVL has been so strong on this that I'd be nervous of anyone trying to take over. Don't want another Baron/Vosburg equivalent team sending my favorite comic to an early grave.Phoenix8008 wrote:Very good to hear. Re: Confirmation: Archer & Armstrong #25
I am pleased about this. I hope FVL is actually staying, but if he doesn't I hope that Delinquents is not a lead-in for Asmus to move over. That is not based on anything, except my worst case scenario. Just not caring for his writing (yet recognizing he certainly has his fans).Keith wrote:Agreed... Re: Confirmation: Archer & Armstrong #25
I would love for FVL to be staying as well, but unless something has changed, that interview makes it pretty clear that he was wrapping up what he started and he was leaving the title. So, I'm very glad A&A isn't going the way of the dodo, but FVL will be missed unless VEI has somehow talked him into staying.leonmallett wrote:I am pleased about this. Re: Confirmation: Archer & Armstrong #25
I'll be curious to see what direction a new writer would take A&A.
And it sounds like FVL has plans (or is in talks) to stay at Valiant. He has hinted several times that he would love to do a Timewalker series or a Geomancer series.

Hopefully FVL can at least contribute a short story to #25. And as for the new writer, in my mind it would ideally be Greg Pak. Him gearing up to take on A&A by taking this little break on EW seems possible considering all the books he has on his plate (Batman/Superman, Action Comics, Turok, Eternal Warrior, and i think something else that I can't recall).

I hope not. I have been pretty disappointed in Eternal Warrior so far. The story hasn't been bad, but it hasn't been good. I am however happy wew got to have FVL on A&A as long as we did. He did a great job!cdgodin wrote:in my mind it would ideally be Greg Pak.

Keep in mind that the two worked together on Marvel's Hercules series, and the Hercules/Cho dynamic had a lot of similarities to A&A; I imagine that on A&A FLV was employing some of the ideas that he had for Herc that never made it to the printed page. Perhaps we'd see something similar from Pak.FormerReader wrote:I hope not. I have been pretty disappointed in Eternal Warrior so far. The story hasn't been bad, but it hasn't been good. Re: Confirmation: Archer & Armstrong #25
My problem is after two arcs I don't feel like I know who Gilad is. I also don't get what is happening in the series. The second arc jumped forwrd to 4001, but why? The second arc did nothing to advance the story. I think most of us thought it would tie into RAI or we would see some conneection to the first arc that ended with the implication that the God of the Dead would return around 4001. The series is not bad, but compared to what it could be I don't feel he is the right guy.kjjohanson wrote:Keep in mind that the two worked together on Marvel's Hercules series, and the Hercules/Cho dynamic had a lot of similarities to A&A; I imagine that on A&A FLV was employing some of the ideas that he had for Herc that never made it to the printed page. If the worst VEI does is vary from medium to good/great.. then I will never be disappointed in a few middle of the road unremarkable books or arcs.FormerReader wrote:I hope not. What VEI really needs now though.. is a new Birthquake event and an X-O bike!

I'm with the rest of you - very glad to hear this.
I suspected it might happen this way, the fact that these planned min-series breaks last for 3 or 4 months means VEI can't generally announce their long term plans until it's closer to solicitation time. It's also kind of a clever marketing strategy as they are able to continuously have announcements to make news over, without resorting to excessive mega-events or relaunch/reboot syndrome. I really appreciate that, personally.

I would like to see either or indeed both (and see the 9-books shackles discarded - that seems a self-defeating strategy to me).

I think with the brilliant work FVL has done so far, it needs a writer who has a sure touch and is going to build on what has gone before; there are clearly things about this book that many of us are passionately in favour of.bygranddesign wrote:I'll be curious to see what direction a new writer would take A&A.

One potential downside: they start focusing on short-term outside a couple of lead books/titles.
