VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
I like projects.
I would like to see Shadowman #44 with the death of Shadowman by Bob Hall. He writes it and does the art, it is financed by VALIANT art buyers here who end up with the original art.
Instead of paying page rates, he could be commissioned for 1,000 words of text with a dozen accompanying small sketches interspliced, those financed by you rich art buyers here.
Well? Do you think this has any momentum???

Oh yeah- forgot. We'd then print up copies, limit to um... 200 copies and have him sign 100 and sell it as a pair... something like that... a definite print run.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Full pages would cost too much, so inked sketchagram cards at $50 a pop plus the cover art and story fee... the total to Bob Hall would be around $800.00 and create $800.00 of new VALIANT art.
Printing- my quote is $3.17 per for color cover and B&W inside, 24 pages- the 12 page story plus an interview with Bob Hall and stuff from you guys. $3.17 is $3.50 with shipping.
So 200 = 220 copies (20 to later destroy) = $770.00 printing fees
Bob Hall art and story- $800.00
TOTAL: $1,570.00
This will give: 10 pieces of art plus cover plus color cover.
100 regular copies
100 signed copies
The art goes to you investors somehow- my idea is you guys put up $800 and you guys figure out who gets what in exchange.
The books would then cost $770.00 which is $3.85 per copy.
The solicitation could be for $12.00 for 1 regular and 1 signed copy, both limited to 100 of each. The extra money goes somewhere noble to help sell the project.

I'm interested as an art sponsor. Maybe get Dino to sign off?

There's the tiny little detail of the rights, if there's going to be money involved.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Best practices is to first get Dino to theoretically approve the use of the concept and characters (and possibly even the script) as a fan project. To protect Valiant's IP interests more formally, we could get a very limited license from VE and then assign the derivative copyright to VE. VE would likely want some quality control over the project. I'm happy to help.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Well I am the coordinator, or guy who sets it up. I will happily do leg work etc. but it boils down to two things: a group of you who want to pool into the art fund and second 100 people to buy 100 sets. We need someone else apart from me and in all honesty, a seperate username should be set up for this project with someone runnig it and someone overseeing it.
So yeah- whoever has pull with VEI get those phones ringing!

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
I'm gonna guess that VEI won't be too crazy about this idea. Not that it's a bad idea but it opens a big can of worms, legally.kjjohanson wrote:There's the tiny little detail of the rights, if there's going to be money involved.
That said, count me in if it gets the nod. I'll sponsor a page.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Cool idea, but I'd imagine getting the ok isn't going to be easy. Shadowman was one of their best IPs and they jacked it up right away with the new version so I imagine they'd likely put the kabosh on something like this.
What's interesting here is the stuff from Bob, but I'd recommend that you take that quote from Bob down so you and he don't run into potential legal threats.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
No money will be made by anyone. Sure Bob Hall wil get paid for art but I can always commission him to do art which he would do. The problem is getting VEI's permission to do something with this abandoned, unused character for the limited use of making a finale to Jack Boniface. The profits go to the charity of your choice.
So who's got juice with VEI? I don't, but I know I can put this together and make it happen. This thread might be good for the VEO guys to see, there is no malicious intent on my part... I want Bob Hall to have closure with the character he ate and drank for years only to be unceremoniously dumped.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
I would LOVE to see a "Shadowman #44" by Bob Hall in any format. Although my preference would be something official from VEI, if that's not going to happen, then this is the next best thing. And if it moves forward, definitely count me in for a copy or two (not sure I can swing being an "art investor"). However, it still needs VEI approval and would have a much better chance at success with that approval. Just send Dino a PM here on the board. That's how I got in touch with him and got approval for Unity Redux. One of his requirements for approval was that it remained digital only. There's a chance they might want to use this as a gauge to see if there's enough interest in having Bob Hall do an official "Shadowman #44" one-shot.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Re: VH1 Shadowman Idea/Project
Shadowman #44 would reach the 1992 Unity audience if done correctly and if it kills Jack Boniface at the hand of Bob Hall. It would be a collector's item... they should make a glow cover for this... it would reach everyone who gave up on Valiant "one last time".
I would give Bob Hall complete and total control over the character and he would produce everything except colors and lettering. It would have to be true to the VH1 universe. And it should have the VH1 Voyager logo on it too.
Then there should be a VVSS of the book to 1,000 copies, all given away in one way or another.
I also have an idea that a comic book company would pay a lot of money for- I can offer this information to VEI in exchange for permission to print 250 copies: 100 regular, 100 signed, 20 for Bob Hall, 30 to be destroyed. The idea, once done, would change the face of comic books. It's the kind of thing Shooter would do that sells books that would sell a lot of books. But I digress...
Greg- what is your opinion of this thread?

I could definately be wrong, but I don't think VEI would make you the guy who gives Bob complete and total control over this book.
If this got cleared by Dino I would be in.
