RAI #1 WORDED preview
Believe it or not CBR has the worded preview of Rai number 1 already plus info on the new pullbox initiative.

And with no Rai to be seen in the preview pages I'm liking the beats of those pages narrative all the same.

Reminiscent of Blade Runner, and that's not a bad thing!
This is the best Crain art I have ever seen... Phenomenal!

The artwork isn't marred at all with the lettering added. Still beautiful.
Also check out the X-O or Armor Hunters Preview pages in the same article showing the entire 18 issue crossover list for Armor Hunters titles from June to September!

Can you get pullbox issues through DCBS? Anybody know?bobby97801 wrote:Looks like I won't be getting the pullbox preview. My lcs is not a top 500 retailer of Valiant.
On a side note, anybody else get the 'wookie cosplay' vibe from the two murderers in the Rai #1 preview? I didn't catch it till my second read through, but the furry jackets with the bandolier totally had me thinking of Chewie!

Me too. Looks like the pullbox plus edition has the same art as the regular Crain cover, just with black trade dress on the right side instead of white. I may just get only the pullbox edition if it'll let me. I get the one cover I really want and the extra content.bobby97801 wrote:I sure hope soPhoenix8008 wrote:Can you get pullbox issues through DCBS? Re: RAI #1 WORDED preview
Now wait - the 500 retailer preview thing is only for a Pullbox Preview, right?
Not the actual Pullbox Plus edition with the extra content not included in the eventual trade paperback?

I prefer the one with the black, anyway. not a fan of so much white space covering the art, although really I'd have liked it if they had the art show through that area like they always do on every other cover.Phoenix8008 wrote:Me too. Yep. VEI sprinkles these political items into their books, kinda becoming like easter eggs in some books.dornwolf wrote:Anyone else notice the name of the district was Blackwater

I actually took it as a nod to the old Ninjak 'Blackwater' thingie.Captain Craig wrote:Yep. VEI sprinkles these political items into their books, kinda becoming like easter eggs in some books.dornwolf wrote:Anyone else notice the name of the district was Blackwater

That was what I was thinking. Kindt has already mentioned a connection to Livewire so a connection to Ninjak wouldn't be a stretchPhoenix8008 wrote:I actually took it as a nod to the old Ninjak 'Blackwater' thingie.Captain Craig wrote:Yep. Nice slow build up to the main character. I usually don't like to read the preview pages, but couldn't help myself in this case. Can't wait for this book.

Is the art done by the same guy who drew 19th century Eternal Warrior in the reboot? Is this guy going to be the artist for the whole series. Also the guys on the first pages look very Yuuzhan Vongish.

Yep, he did a flashback in the 1800's with Buck. Was very impressive.Forgotten Manchu vet wrote:Is the art done by the same guy who drew 19th century Eternal Warrior in the reboot? Is this guy going to be the artist for the whole series. Also the guys on the first pages look very Yuuzhan Vongish.
I think he also dis a flashback sequence in Harbinger Wars.

Re: RAI #1 WORDED preview
It seems like he's definitely on for the first arc. But I think it takes him more than a month to finish a full issue, so while we may see him on future arcs, it seems unlikely he'll be the artist for all issues.Forgotten Manchu vet wrote:Is this guy going to be the artist for the whole series.

Re: RAI #1 WORDED preview
I'm a little confused, so wanted to ask here: I'd read Rai #1 was going to have a polybagged version containing extra material. Is this true? Also, is the extra material actually extra story pages, or just artwork/creator interviews and stuff of that nature (not necessarily essential). I'd also heard this material wouldn't be collected in the trade, which makes me wonder if it is actually extra story pages or just supplemental material.
Just wondering. I normally wait for the trades but if it's the case where additional story content is available only in that issue and won't be collected anywhere else, I'll certainly pick up the polybagged version.

The solicitation info from Bleeding Cool's article says:DIrishB wrote:I'm a little confused, so wanted to ask here: I'd read Rai #1 was going to have a polybagged version containing extra material. I think if the additional pages were straight up more story, they would say so. But "in-story bonus features" doesn't sound to me like interviews or the link. The best analogy for what I think we'll see is what was run at the back of each issue of Watchmen. (In case you never read it, each issue featured excerpts of the original Night Owl's autobiography, or newspaper clippings about the Minutemen, etc.)For Valiant’s dedicated pullbox customers, celebrate the launch of VALIANT FIRST with a special expanded edition of RAI #1, featuring more than 15 pages of in-story bonus features and dedicated looks inside the world of 4001 A.D. that won’t be collected for the trade paperback!
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

this version of 4001 reminds me of Mega City 1 from Judge Dredd.
