Speculation On New Rai

I think we can expect Rai to be the Promethean guardian of the Dragon City of Japan, which will be a sentient and probably at least airborne city whose consciousness is Grandmother. Beyond that it's really hard to say.

I think we'll get something like Shadowman, in that it will combine elements from all the Rais into a new or rebooted one. I hope they slowly trickle in the Future Force characters and never use the name, because they were cool except for that. And I'd bet money that we'll see Timewalker and other Prometheans, along with other sentient cities.

The whole "FUTURE FORCE" title was lame, but it was also something that was not 100% uncommon to that timeframe.

Would love to see them use as much of the original premise as possible. Grandmother, the Nerveweb, Dragon City...all great premises that made Rai unique among other books. I think it would be a real waste not to use them.

We definitely need him to be based off the original Rai design. White skin with black accents with the Bloodshot circle on his chest. Hopefully, they retain some of the "Grandmother" aspect in the stories, the sentient computerthat runs Japan.

The bigger question I have is why does this need to be set in 4001? With no Magnus in this universe, why go that far out? Will any of the other future characters make it into the new version - like Kazuyo, Rai's ex-wife in the XO Commando armor?

I think we touched on 4001 awhile ago, with some speculation on the 4001 universe and possible titles, amongst them EW, RAI, Armorines?! Possible Future Force, maybe a Secret Weapons and of course Timewalker, although Ivar's title would span all time, so not technically a 4001 title, another XO title could be possible, sans Aric but someone else in a XO class armor ( kinda like the failed future Spider-Man title of the late 90's).

Getting slightly off topic here, but I loved Spidey 2099 and am delighted that Dan Slott brought his alter ego Miguel O'hara to the present and has made him a supporting character in Superior Spider-Man! Hope he sticks around! (pun intended?)
