Marvel's reprint of Miracleman
So I just got to reading my copy this week. It's an expensive package but I love going through comic book history so I enjoyed all the bonus materials. As to the main feature, I was quite surprised at its qualitygiven that this was printed back in the early 1980s. I am definitely in for the long haul, primarily because I have been anticipating reading this classic which has never been accessible here in our country before.
One not-so-good effect on me of reading this issue, though, is that one of my favorite comic book stories, Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee's The Sentry, lost some of its luster. So The Sentry is basically just a modern day reinterpretation of Miracleman? I really though The Sentry was an original idea. Damn.

I picked this up too and loved the new coloring. Be prepared for the quality to drop severely when Chuck Beckum trakes over the art duties. Truly horrible and really ruins the book for a few issues. But after that it will pick back up with John Totleben's art which is great.erwinrafael wrote:So I just got to reading my copy this week. I'm still on the fence about picking these up. I'm not a fan of the price point or all the legal battles behind Marvel acquiring the IP, but I ran into a friend of mine at my LCS this week, and he was pretty happy with them - he mentioned the colouring being excellent & the fact that the extra reprint material alone is well worth the price.
So weird to see 'The Original Writer' in the credits instead of Moore...

Re: Marvel's reprint of Miracleman
I just read the second issue today. WOW, that was intense. I am still shocked at how Kid Miracleman just threatened and hurled a child at a wall. I can not imagine the effect this scene would have on a comic book reader back in 1982.

Every one was throwing babies at the wall back in the 80's. We just didn't know any better back then.

just keep going, there are more intense scenes than that...and I agree Totleben's work is really good
