Thoughts on AMC Adapting Preacher Series
So, what does everything think about the recent new of AMC trying to adapt Preacher to a cable tv show? I'm quite skeptic about the idea, especially due to the content, violence, etc. Thoughts?

Re: Thoughts on AMC Adapting Preacher Series
there is no way it can work on regular cable.
on HBO or Netflicks maybe.

It will be a mere shadow of the original source material.
As Brother Darque said, only HBO, Showtime, or Netflix could do it justice.
Supposedly, HBO had the option, a few years back, but found the portrayal of God to be too controversial.

Re: Thoughts on AMC Adapting Preacher Series
A Preacher adaptation sounds like a hard sell to the general public since the villain is God. Not to mention the instances of bestiality and incest. Even on a premium cable show I would think things would be toned down a great deal. I'll be surprised if this doesn't get stuck in development hell.

It already did some time in HBO development hell so that wouldn't be surprising.Spylocke wrote:A Preacher adaptation sounds like a hard sell to the general public since the villain is God. After watching Ray Donovan and Homeland, Preacher would be better off on Showtime.

Re: Thoughts on AMC Adapting Preacher Series
I would love to see a TV studio have the steel to produce a Preacher adaptation that stays true to the books... But I wouldn't expect it to happen.
I'm glad it's not in HBO's hands, I'm not really a fan of too many HBO shows anymore (although Carnival is a top fav.). Too much story sacrificed to shoe-horn sex in.
But AMC? They've backed off a lot of controversial plot points in TWD already...
Does anyone watch American Horror Story:Coven? FX may have been a better home.

I enjoy Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and Treme.grendeljd wrote: I'm glad it's not in HBO's hands, I'm not really a fan of too many HBO shows anymore (although Carnival is a top fav.). Too much story sacrificed to shoe-horn sex in.
Very true. especially keeping the stupid baby alive. Surprises me though because they were never shy about content with Breaking Bad.grendeljd wrote: But AMC? They've backed off a lot of controversial plot points in TWD already...
you may be right. I've only seen the first couple of Coven but I LOVE American Horror Story. great series.grendeljd wrote: Does anyone watch American Horror Story:Coven? FX may have been a better home.

I love the idea of American Horror Story as the story is different each year but uses the same cast as difference characters. This season has been fantastic so far! I just do not think any cable station is suiting for something like this, but who knows maybe they will get it right!

i was hoping for Showtime, for one reason : SHAMELESS. A channel that can do that show, can do Preacher.

Re: Thoughts on AMC Adapting Preacher Series
AMC did just fine with Breaking Bad. It is going to be a hard hard sell though.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter
