+1 to that and as far as a flip book, I am game. I liked the flip books.brucehartshorn wrote:Very pleased to see this return. VEI continues to restore the universe
I don't have any desire to bind VEI stuff, since they are printing trades and some Hardcovers (maybe eventually all) so only VH1(maybe 2) will get bound by me.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?

I was going to suggest calling him 'Special Agent Inadvertent Spoiler', but then Elveen would have two characters named after him in the Valiant U... And even though Elveens a pretty cool cat, that would not be fairlorddunlow wrote:Of course.jmatt wrote:But only if they called him Spoiley.lorddunlow wrote:I would totally read that book!kjjohanson wrote:There should be a character called Spoiler who constantly tells you what happens in the next issue.Valiant Brings Back In 2014

Ed's probably right, I was also thinking this is a plug for another major classic character's first appearance in a #5 issue of another book... But I'm also with Dunlow on this, I want it to be a new book.lorddunlow wrote:I think we all just want it to be a new book. my bet's on either ales kot, simon spurrier or joshua williamson. another bold choice would be adam egypt mortimer (gis sci-fi epic ballistic is killing it). or maybe it'll be matt kindt's 10th monthly book, who knows..
To flip or not to flip? That is the question...

The original Rai was somewhat 1984ish in the sense that an all powerful AI called Grandmother ran the entire cyborg island of Japan and was opposed by a small sect of freedom fighters who rebelled against her control.Brother Darque wrote:You Are Safe.
maybe they are going with something 1984ish?

i think it's pretty safe bet the next ongoing vei releases has to be rai. why introduce the 4001-concept now if you don't have a regular book that can benefit from it?grendeljd wrote:Ed's probably right, I was also thinking this is a plug for another major classic character's first appearance in a #5 issue of another book... it's also probably the last important & classic & intensely-demanded-by-fans vh1 hero vei has left to revive, so giving him his own book seems like a no-brainer.
i'm sure he will be introduced through a 3-issue-arc first, probably starting in ew #5, and then in early/mid 2014, we'll see the monthly.

It really wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to go: "Here's the year 4001!...ok now back to the present". My money is on it being a new serieskrylox wrote:i think it's pretty safe bet the next ongoing vei releases has to be rai. why introduce the 4001-concept now if you don't have a regular book that can benefit from it?grendeljd wrote:Ed's probably right, I was also thinking this is a plug for another major classic character's first appearance in a #5 issue of another book... OMG when I saw this at the end of Unity I nearly peed. The dude is such an amazing character. This thing will be on my pull no matter who writes it. I seriously can't wait

I wonder if we're also getting a Ninjak solo book next year as well...? His stock is certainly rising after that great open arc in X-O last year, and then his amazing presence in Unity thus far, it seems to me like he's being groomed for his own book sooner rather than later.

It depends. If he becomes a mainstay in UNITY, then it's unlikely he gets his own book (Especially with another "Eastern Warrior" coming along with Rai). Eternal Warrior can have his own title and be in UNITY because his book can bounce throughout time. Ninjak not so much.Talisman wrote:I wonder if we're also getting a Ninjak solo book next year as well...? If he leaves and gets a solo title, I'd also be afraid of who would end up in UNITY. If the book is truly VALIANT's team of heavy hitters, who else can they add? It seems doubtful Harada or Aric will stick around very long, so I'd like to see Ninjak, EW and Livewire form the foundation of UNITY for some time.
From there maybe the Geomancer, Doctor Mirage, Timewalker...after that the pickings for "Heavy Hitters" are pretty slim. Shadowman isn't really a good fit, and neither are any of the other VALIANT title characters.
Though a jump to UNITY 4001 with EW, Rai, Timewalker, a future Shadowman and Geomancer, etc. is intriguing...

Re: Valiant Brings Back [SPOILER] In 2014
I think that after the initial kickoff, it'd be fun to see a team without any of the pillars. Give us Cronos and Kay and Livewire and Bleeding Monk and Anamalia. How effing interesting would that be? Gilad can check in from time to time to lend a hand as Kay's liaison.BugsySig wrote:If the book is truly VALIANT's team of heavy hitters, who else can they add?
The Monk may seem out of place there but that's only because so far VEI has treated him as a totem, an icon of future portent. But what if we got to see him in action?

No offense, because I like all those characters, but no one would buy that book.jmatt wrote:I think that after the initial kickoff, it'd be fun to see a team without any of the pillars. I dunno, I know I was just pulling names out of a hat but a cast of new characters would be more interesting than a porridge of More Of The Same. VEI needs to get out of the box more and Unity is a good place to experiment.BugsySig wrote:No offense, because I like all those characters, but no one would buy that book.
I am already tired of seeing Harada dripping from almost every title.

Because that strategy worked so well when Secret Weapons switched to a bunch of new charactersjmatt wrote:I dunno, I know I was just pulling names out of a hat but a cast of new characters would be more interesting than a porridge of More Of The Same. I'd be cool with adding new characters, but some of those others have to be there to anchor the team. I also wouldn't want to see the book just turn into a Harbinger spinoff.
I don't think Harada will be sticking with the "team" but the others may continue together in order to stop the next threat. I also doubt Aric will stick around as he is the least likely to be a team player.

I don't see Harada sticking around on a team that he's not in complete control of. I don't see Ninjak sticking around, unless he's getting paid to be there, and without Harada that's not happening. I think we're going to be looking at Aric, Gilad, Livewire, and some characters TBD.BugsySig wrote:Because that strategy worked so well when Secret Weapons switched to a bunch of new charactersjmatt wrote:I dunno, I know I was just pulling names out of a hat but a cast of new characters would be more interesting than a porridge of More Of The Same. Re: Valiant Brings Back [SPOILER] In 2014
While Bleeding Monk is cool, I honestly think he serves the VU better as a pivot for plots than anything else. I suspect in a month on month book, there would be real limits as to his utility as a character. He seems like a shadowy manipulator, and I feel that is hard to write in a compelling way as a monthly character. Mileage may very well vary though!jmatt wrote:I think that after the initial kickoff, it'd be fun to see a team without any of the pillars. VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month
