First appearances - countdown to UNITY - NINJAK

Post by AnthonyF »

T-minus 3 days till UNITY...

The count down to Unity continues, with NINJAK!

Colin King, and his alter ego, Ninjak were co-created by writer Mark Moretti and artist Joe Quesada.
Colin King's first appearance was in VALIANT's Bloodshot 6 (1993). The following month, Ninjak appears in costume, in Bloodshot 7. The original art from both is below. The cover and first appearance of Ninjak is on ebay, it's not mine (wouldn't be for sale if it was)

Ninjak launched in his own series in 1994, with much fanfare, featuring art and design by Joe Quesada. Here is the amazing promotional poster for the series, and the cover it issue 2.

In 2012, VEI re-introduced Colin and Ninjak in X-O Manowar #5. See the Patrick Zircher redesign below

Ninjak showed up in costume months before Bloodshot 6 and 7. His iconic figure jumping in front of a round stained glass window with dual sparking swords (which Quesada afterward used again and again for years with many characters) appeared on industry magazine covers and ads, such as Entertainment This Month, Previews and Entertainment Retailing, as well as inside and on back covers of several Valiants for months before Bloodshot 6. The same image was used for his Valiant Chromium card promo, comic shop 'sold here' signs, a book mark, a pin, art prints, and in the newly recolored Valiant Masters: Ninjak Vol. 1 – Black Water.

Another board member has/had the inks, and I have the color

Yes. The first is the ad from the original colors in 1993 and pre-dates Bloodshot 6. The 2nd is a new recolor from digital files in 2013. 20 Years for this icon now!
