Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Good point. Although the grading factor (9.8 to raw) multiple has really come down to a buy signal (the convergence from raw NM to 9.8). I think a base is pretty damn close to these prices...ckb wrote:All true, and it's why I like -potential supply- versus actual supply. The opposite of the "weak hand" example above is true as well - if there is a sense it may be worth more in the future, books in the actual supply move back into the potential supply.GGSAE wrote:Sure, and you can always get a lower-grade Harbinger 1 for much cheaper. I know you're one of the CGC die-hards here, but how many are as particular (or strong) as you, Rico? Who's to say that someone else definitely won't sell another copy, you can't predict what the future will hold. A loss of job, maybe buying a car or house, major medical expense, purchasing OA, moving into a different collecting stream, etc., all of these factors can flush out 'collector copies' at any time. These are factors of selling not motivated by profit - some of which are based on necessity.
Because demand is low right now you may be correct that we are seeing pricing based of the potential supply - basing a price off the census numbers and previous sales. If demand picks up, the pricing will move to actual supply and then we'll see how many weak hands are really out there. If demand or selling prices decrease, we will be able to figure out the same thing - nothing like a sinking ship to make the rats scurry.

Here's one live and auction style. The two below it have an opening bids set at 400.00, so that would seem to put a cap on these books right now of 400.00. Btw, the two sellers of the lower two items seem to possibly be the same, though located in different states. They have the same exact title, and same opening bid.

Not sure if you're talking about the one accessed by the top link, but that one has bids up to 292.00 and is closing in one day.GGSAE wrote:It's not showing any bids for me?StarBrand wrote:Here's one live and auction style. Well you said the two below has an opening bid at $400, but there aren't any bids.StarBrand wrote:Not sure if you're talking about the one accessed by the top link, but that one has bids up to 292.00 and is closing in one day.GGSAE wrote:It's not showing any bids for me?StarBrand wrote:Here's one live and auction style. I meant the opening bid was set at 400.00. I just corrected what I wrote. Sorry about that.GGSAE wrote:Well you said the two below has an opening bid at $400, but there aren't any bids.StarBrand wrote:Not sure if you're talking about the one accessed by the top link, but that one has bids up to 292.00 and is closing in one day.GGSAE wrote:It's not showing any bids for me?StarBrand wrote:Here's one live and auction style. The one above has the same serial # as the one below sold on 9/22 for $338. Maybe buyer did not pay and re-listed?StarBrand wrote:Ended at 345.00 plus shipping.

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Running out of room on the 1st post to add stuff . . .
Should I delete auctions prior to 2013 that went unsold? That should make it less cluttered. I think it's important to keep the recent unsold auctions to establish some sort of current baseline. I am not sure how useful it is to look at unsold auctions from years ago, with the exception of knowing who owns which book based on serial #.

I agree. Although, it would be a shame to lose the info if there were any instances where a book changed sellers without actually boing sold. So if a serial number appears as for sale by Seller A, ends unsold, and next appears for sale by Seller B - that would be nice to capture.iggy101us wrote:Running out of room on the 1st post to add stuff . . .

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
I took a look at the list again and also suggest the following:
- If keeping the style of the list the same, footnote the "special" books' serial numbers rather than describe them each time. So for the SS and Q copies, put a [1] where those serial numbers are mentioned and then have a list at the beginning or end:
[1] SS Shooter JJ
[2] qualified no-coupon
...
- If keeping the style of the list the same, remove "Harbinger 1" from the start of every record.
- If the unsold history is going to be lost, it may be worth thinking about replacing it with a history by serial number instead of by time. The maybe we could have something that looked very roughly like
#123456789
ended at $1,101 on 6/22/2009 . . . bought by desirableitems
unsold 34 times from 7/1/2009 to 12/12/2012 at $600(1/5/2011) - $1800(8/4/2009)
------
I'd volunteer to help with the text mangling if you want to do a restructure.

What if you started a second thread on this topic and used one to archive info. You could post a link to the archived thread in the top post of the active thread. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I have a couple of posts on the 1st page. So maybe I will just archive everything prior to the current year to a subsequent post. The 1st post will list auctions in the current year. That way we won't be deleting all the historical info.

There's one auction style on eBay currently at 305.00, but the seller is ending it Tuesday night. That might not help matters.

Seems strange that he wouldn't scan them individually. I could see not doing that if it were a five dollar item, but this seems strange. Not out of ten realm of possibilities, I suppose.iggy101us wrote:Got a reply back.
