Falcon was one of my favorite figures too for a very similar reason! My dad was in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. He was a radio operator in the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, he still carried his Ka-Bar that he carried in Vietnam, and had an Ithaca shotgun from his Vietnam days. Falcon, specifically with his accessories (radio backpack, knife, and shotgun) always reminded me of my dad. Plus he wore a Beret and had a shotgun like Flint, my favorite Joe character and figure.Carson wrote:I dug GI Joe for the militaristic characteristics. My dad was Special Forces and in my young mind, he epitomized Falcon.

Awesome! Man, growing up my house was like an armory. We had tiger stripe camo, black and green boots, airborne maroon berets, green berets, machine guns, an Uzi, countless rifles and pistols, a mortar my grandad captured in WW2, machine guns, a crossbow from the mountianyard (sp?) people of Vietnam (my dad trained them to go into Laos), a stinger SAM from Afghanistan (my granddad helped fight Charlie Wilson's war), etc. It was a really cool house to grow up in, and my dad was the coolest guy in my young world!Heath wrote:Falcon was one of my favorite figures too for a very similar reason! Love 1980s G.I. Joe card art? Me too.
Now you can browse 3DJoes.com simply by scanning the card art! The G.I. Joe Yearbook is a visual index of all of the carded G.I. Joes and Cobras. It currently covers 1982-1985 (the peach file card years). Bookmark this page and check back often, as I will develop this page to include every carded figure from the ARAH line, from 1982-1994.

The Mega-Marines and Mega-Monsters have arrived!
The Mega-Marines featured four Joes and two cobras. Each came with a weapons tree, moldable bio-armor (Play-Doh), an armor mold and a missile launcher. The Mega-Monsters featured two oversized genetically enhanced soldiers, complete with grabbing tentacles, gut bombs and monster smells!
I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. Check out the madness over on the 1993 Overview!

The 1993 Ninja Force figures have arrived!
The Ninja Force must have sold well in 1992, because Hasbro brought them back in force in 1993. The six 1992 figures were trumped by one and Hasbro upped the ante further with two Ninja Force vehicles and drivers. I for one am happy to see the return of Scarlett and Zartan, two key figures that hadn't seen store shelves since the early 80s. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of each figure's page to see an all out ninja melee!

What do you guys consider the hallmark era of the original 3 3/4 inch line? IMHO it is 82-86ish, after that they start to just get silly with some if the ideas/versions of characters.

Re: 3DJoes.com
I'm from a military family, so the more realistic early 80s stuff resonates best with me. Guys like 1982 stalker, 1987 falcon, 1985 dusty, 1983 snow job, 1984 rip cord, 1985 footloose, 1983 doc, 1986 low light, 1983 airborne, etc were my favorites. Vehicles like the bridge layer, skystriker, tomahawk, awe striker, whale, etc that were loosely based on real vehicles were awesome too.maraxusofkeld wrote:What do you guys consider the hallmark era of the original 3 3/4 inch line? I was 11 in 1990 and everything was starting to get really out there, so that's when I moved on to comics in earnest.... just in time to discover Valiant!

I wish the carded figure poster(s) was(were) available already! I really like that poster! (And, I prefer the one without Tomax & Xamot. I don't like the incompleteness of it, but I more dislike having two separate posters just to include them.)Carson wrote:3DJoes is a year old! Definitely agree with this. When it started to go superhero science fiction is when I grew out of it. I came back to it with the reboot series for a short while in High School (those eps with GridIron and company) but it was nostalgia and I didn't stick with it. That was the era of packing figures with some awesome real firing weaponry. I still think that Red Star, Heavy Duty and the Alley Vipers were awesome figures.maraxusofkeld wrote:What do you guys consider the hallmark era of the original 3 3/4 inch line? I collected heavily from 1986-1990. By then I had phased entirely out of boys toys and into comics (just in time for Valiant!).IMJ wrote:Definitely agree with this. Building 3DJoes has given me the excuse to collect the 1990-1994 figures I mostly never got to know. YES, there are some crappy neon colors and too many oversized spring loaded water shooting noise making weapons.
The market in general had gone tacky.
That said, not all of them are bad. Here are some 1990-93 favorites of mine:

The 1993 Star Brigade figures have arrived! 1993 is complete!
The 1993 Star Brigade consisted of six astronauts, six battle-armored warriors and two drivers. Oddly, there were two versions of Ozone. That's a total of 15 new figures! There was one new character, the half-man, half-machine cyborg known as Robo-JOE! Some old favorites were outfitted with Robotic Battle Armor, including Destro, Duke and Rock 'n Roll. Heavy Duty is the most memorable of the bunch though. Check them all out on the 1993 overview, and be sure not to miss Sci-Fi's hair cut!

Re: 3DJoes.com
I remember Cobra-La well. They were in the GI Joe Movie. I think it was the first thing GI Joe related that made me say, "Wow, this sucks." When I heard that Larry Hamma refused to include them in the comic, I was content to just ignore them and carry on. Unfortunately, I think Cobra-La really did signal the beginning of the end for the GI Joe line.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Now that I've read the cards, I have to say some of the Cobra-La concepts are cool--especially crustacean armor. But the characters seem better suited for He-Man than G.I. Joe.

Re: 3DJoes.com
Right on, they weren't a terrible sci fi concept, they just didn't belong in the Joe universe!
Ah well, I'm glad Larry Hama kept them out of his comic continuity.
He also killed off those cheesy Battle Force 2000 Joes

Re: 3DJoes.com
Printed my second 3DJoes poster on Friday!
It's called "Carded 3DJoes" (1982-1985) and features every single carded figure on one 24x36" poster. (Poster on the left)
The best part? I added a "bullseye varnish" where the bubbles held the figure to the card, so the bubbles have a light gloss and the rest is matte.
