Xo manowar hardcover edition.
Are you going to buy it?
I am probably going do it, for the extras.
Currently it is £20 amazon uk, with promise if price drops the saving will be passed on.

It's a new one it popped up on Amazon available for pre-order shipping in October. It's a deluxe oversized HC and it says it's going to have over 20 pages of never before seen extras.bobby97801 wrote:Is there a new one coming out or are you talking about the one from 2008?

Re: Xo manowar hardcover edition.
If it's got extras in it, I'm totally in. I would buy the TPBs in addition to the floppies but they don't have much in the way of extras.
Here's the Amazon description:
"An oversized, deluxe hardcover collecting X-O Manowar's complete first year in the Valiant Universe! From the epic origin to the battle for Planet Death, the definitive tale of Valiant's flagship hero comes together in this prestige-sized collection by New York Times best-selling writer Robert Venditti (Green Lantern, The Surrogates) and comics visionaries Cary Nord (Conan), Lee Garbett (Batman: RIP), and Trevor Hairsine (X-Men: Deadly Genesis). Aric of Dacia, a fifth century Visigoth armed with the universe's most powerful weapon, is all that stands between the Earth and all-out annihilation at the hands of the alien race that abducted him from his own time. Stranded in the modern day, X-O Manowar's battle against the Vine will take him into the shadows with the lethal operative known as Ninjak -- and launch a quest for vengeance that will bring an alien empire to its knees. The Vine destroyed Aric's world. Now he will give them war. Collecting the sold-out X-O MANOWAR #1-14, the X-O Manowar Vol. 1 Deluxe Oversized HC also features a new introduction by series author Robert Venditti and more than 20 pages of never-before-seen extras direct from the Valiant vaults."
Sweetness!

It has to be over 300 pages then. If it's bigger than a marvel sized hc, I'll probably get it. If all the hcs are forty bucks, I might switch to just that format.

Well, the listing has it at 200 pages. Still, very decent price for a HC, will definitely have to check that one out.400yrs wrote:It has to be over 300 pages then. If it's bigger than a marvel sized hc, I'll probably get it. If all the hcs are forty bucks, I might switch to just that format.
I also just noticed the Amazon listings for HC of Ninjak, Shadowman, and Eternal Warrior, collecting early issues from their 90s runs. Anyone here have any of those books? Will definitely check those out as well.

Re: Xo manowar hardcover edition.
I'd prefer to just buy hardcovers - the stories read better in tpb form. However, I'd have a hard time waiting for them to come out. Since I started picking up floppies again, I'd miss the trip to the store. Although, I'm going to strongly consider going this route.

Re: Xo manowar hardcover edition.
I have Ninjak and Bloodshot (as well as the Harbinger, A&A and XO HCs that were printed a few years back by VEI). Just ordered Shadowman and will be getting EW and Rai (announced in the FCBD issue) eventually. I like having them and they are well done. Bloodshot has a new story in VH1 continuity (as did the original 3) but Ninjak and those after do not...which is a bit of a bummer. They look good on the shelf, though.String wrote:Well, the listing has it at 200 pages. 20 pages of extras? Holy snap. I might actually have to buy an HC comic trade for the first time.

You can give me all your Valiant comics if you likePhantom wrote:Are you going to buy it?

Currently it is £20 amazon uk, with promise if price drops the saving will be passed on.
House is massively over crowded. Too many doubles, hoards and comics in general.

Whilst I can understand it from the consumer's perspective, I'm not sure that buying these massive hardcovers exclusively would be the best way to support the company. If their floppies and regular TPBs aren't selling in the shops because everyone's waiting for the cost effective hardcovers, then that'll seriously affect their monthly numbers and their comics will *appear* to have lost popularity overall which might even prompt shops to stock much lower numbers of or stop stocking the comics at all. The knock on effects from there are fairly obvious.
I also don't quite understand why these mega hardcovers are so cheap at RRP: There's no way that they're cheaper to manufacture than the regular trades so the profit margin must be pretty small, so I can only assume that they're producing a low number of these in comparison and relying on more substantial profit from elsewhere (i.e. the floppies and trades and merch)
But for someone like me, who isn't currently reading XO... It's a seriously tempting prospect. I get to check out a whole LOT of the comic for a pretty good price, and it might start me following the comic regularly if I like it.

Re: Xo manowar hardcover edition.
Well, obviously the best way to support the company financially is to buy multiples upon multiples of everything they release. Or better yet, just give them all your money. I'm at the point where the $4 or a fraction of $4 @ a discount isn't quite worth it. A nice reasonably priced hc though, would be. A new offering at a fair price point could even bring in new readers to the singles if they like the books enough.Shadowman99 wrote:You can give me all your Valiant comics if you likePhantom wrote:Are you going to buy it?

Regarding the profit for the company from a trade or hc, I bet they are pretty close, if profits from a hc aren't better per unit. The only trouble with the hcs is that they have sell enough to cover their costs. If they can do that, it's all profit from there.
