Re: What comics are you reading now?
I read this as singles up through issue #9 or so. I decided to switch over to trades and haven't caught up yet. I like what I've read, but reading it as singles didn't work for me because of the ever-dangling mystery. I like the art and the ideas though. I believe I now have up through issue 19 or 20 which I need to catch up on.pixierosa wrote:Anyone else reading Morning Glories? I've only gotten through the first arc but I'm liking it.
Hawkeye #7 - Awesome!
Superior Spider-Man #2 - This was a date issue and was really excellent.
Invincible #100 - This was fairly disappointing. I see what Kirkman was trying to do and he did it, but I can't say this was one of my more-liked issues.
Point of Impact #1 - I'll have to track this down in trade. I liked this first issue more than I expected to (which is what I always seem to say on books by Jay Faerber).

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I thought Hawkeye #7 was not all that great...definitely the worst of the series. He didn't mind Gil calling him Hawkguy back in Oct but in Dec he kept correcting him stating "eye" in issue #6. The story was just not that fluid. Kate looked terrible in this issue IMO.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I believe the spoiler had more to do with how #7 was created (and also will be in spoilers)...caniac wrote:I thought Hawkeye #7 was not all that great...definitely the worst of the series. Remember that #7's original solicitations were for the issue that will be this month's #8. But with Superstorm Sandy, Fraction decided to crank out a special issue with two local-for-him (Portland, Oregon) artists. Maybe that is the reason he forgot about the Hawk"guy"/"eye" convo inspired by his son. Either that, or Clint's tolerance of being called Hawkguy was wearing thin by December.
I'm also convinced that Hypernaturals would probably flow better in trade format than waiting month-in, month-out for issues and forgetting what happened. Will still get the single issues and also buy the trades because it's good and I like DnA, but just a thought as I was reading Hypernaturals #8 today.

I've done the first couple Mind the Gap but let it slide. May pick it back up. How do you like it?

I can't help but wonder if DnA had an idea for a Legion story that DC would not let them write so they went to Boom! and did the Hypernaturals. It really feels like a rare good Legion story.tetrisdork wrote:I'm also convinced that Hypernaturals would probably flow better in trade format than waiting month-in, month-out for issues and forgetting what happened. Re: What comics are you reading now?
I thought it was better than the run up had been. Issues 98 and 99 were somewhat painful. I think Kirkman let the last storyline run on too long and didn't give himself a chance to set up something properly for 100.400yrs wrote:MarrowMan wrote:yesterday I bought and read

Yeah, 3 issues was kind of quick for an arc. But he said kind of the point he wanted to make in this one, like he often does was to make fun of the genre about the "deaths" and retunrs. And also to make this just another regular issue rather than celebrating that it got to 100 issues like other companies do. I get what he was doing, but I could've gone for something grand here instead of this intended understatement.
The way that Dinosarus just changed his mind so quickly didn't feel right either. And wtf is up with that last page? Again?

Re: What comics are you reading now?
So he parodied the genre by doing exactly the same thing with little humour?! Same with making it any other issue, it had a ton of covers, a whole load of hype and a death. I don't get this whole Kirkman was parodying other companies (and himself) in this case, a parody needs to subvert the genre tropes to comment or make fun of them not just repeat them.400yrs wrote:ian_house wrote:I thought it was better than the run up had been. Levy's tears were my standout moment though! I'm just gutted Dinosaurus had such a cheap death, really loved having that character around, even if I knew he couldn't last forever. As for the last page I'd say that was pretty expected, what else has Mark been up to whilst out of the heroing game

I need to re-read it as a group. I just read the singles as they came out. I loved #1, but then I felt like the story wasn't moving anywhere or worse, that there was no solid story.

I finished Manhattan Projects Vol 1. This is good, no doubt, but it's not my style. I don't really like the art either. Pitarra's stuff in Red Wing, I liked better. This kind of looks a step to far towards Giffen's Trencher.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Been reading The Goon by Eric Powell and think it is amazing. I only have about seven issues left to read before I am completely caught up and think this book is genius. Great humor and great story. I have not heard anybody talk about this series before and I honestly don't know why. I am super impressed with the art and silly, silly humor. Great stuff.
I am going to say something that I am sure people are going to disagree with, but I feel this is the best book being published right now. Right now my #1 is The Goon and my #2 is Chew.

The people who like the Goon really like it.
I tried a few issues and I think a trade, but nothing about it caught my interest.
