Dear OTV Crew:
Thanks for the "shout-out" regarding episode 101 and collecting new VEI comics. I was driving across America's heartland (Kansas) when I heard my name called out as the inspiration for the collecting re-visit. I was very excited and had to call my wife right away to tell her that I was mentioned on my favorite podcast. Fantastic episode and keep up the great work!

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. 'Half-Deck' ha! Looking good, can't wait to see moreDr. Solar wrote:Here's a little tease of what I've been working on in "my spare time":

Totally counts. 'The Twitt' is where I post the most about pretty much everything going on in my life.lorddunlow wrote:I've seen bits and pieces as tweeted by Sean. Does that count?

BTW, I totally agree with what you said about talent coming with practice, Doc - while I think some people have a natural ability to grasp how to draw, thus improving faster & seemingly easily compared to others, I also believe anybody can do it that is willing to make the effort to learn & take the time to practice.

Not anybody. If you would like proof, I could provide you some examples of my work in the field of art. I practiced a LOT in middle school trying to draw my own comics. It never improved. I did enjoy it though - not sure anyone else would.grendeljd wrote: I also believe anybody can do it that is willing to make the effort to learn & take the time to practice.

Even the trees walked in that movie! Great reference to Clerks II, and just about everything I found wrong with the LOTR trilogy. I couldn't stand it. Never watched part III because the first two *SQUEE* me off so much.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Really enjoyed episode 102 about the Harbinger Wars. A little rough on bloodshot but I agree with the not enough meat on the bone assessment. And I liked that you brought up Dysart's thread where he talks a lot about the layered conflicts and ideas that he is trying to set up in Harbinger.
Joshua Dysart wrote: The book needs both Harada and his sprawling corporate organization and The Renegades tiny human little group to achieve thematically what we are going for. But yes, from the beginning I set out to make Harada more sympathetic. I generally find villainy boring and tedious. To me it's so much more interesting that Harada has these extremely nobel goals, but is ultimately on a huge power trip. The first real slug line we came up with was, "Humanity will have a better future... or no future at all." That's Harada all over. He believes he is more important than anyone else. He believes his vision of the future is the only one possible. He is, through and through, a polemicist and antidemocratic in every way. Peter, on the other hand, is a total populous. It makes him uncomfortable to have power. He freely admits he doesn't know what the right course of action is, he lacks faith in himself almost to a fault. The Renegades vote before they leap to action (as you saw in issue #11). So that's what this book is about, these two competing ideologies. It's not about good versus evil. It's not about Campbell myth making. It's about democracy vs. dictatorship. And that struggle becomes much more fascinating when the dictator is depicted as a utopian and the democracy is fueled by flawed, addicted people.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
I vote for a full episode of Only the Astrophysics. Perhaps some discussion of some theoretical astrophysics. I'd love to hear C-lo discussing Magnetohydrodynamics at length

Loved the astrophysics stuff. And if by Star Trek, you mean Star Wars, then yes, a whole episode of Star "Trek".
"It all goes back to Star Wars". WARS.
