Yup, like Veen said, we're gonna have good ol' comic discussion for the next few weeks.Elveen wrote:We just recorded a few comic related episodes.ValiantReader wrote:When we going to get back to reviewing comics!! This Sunday, Episode 102 will be out, our discussion of Harbinger Wars, month 1.
We'll probably have some Archer & Armstrong discussion the week after that.

Thanks for the new episode with full OTV crew, I found the episode really clipped along while at the same time covering a lot of ground, well done.
Good job with the shout out to Elery, he deserves it

Brian...
Its actually four square, not back to back to back..., since Jonesey is back
I'm curious on how much time it takes Sean to record, edit upload and maintain the OTV website.
Its quite impressive on how he's able to do all this work.... + also helping out Elveen at conventions.

I'm certainly no Shakespeare, that's for sure...
I have been really busy lately. I've got work, OTV, and another project that is in the works that should be done this week. I'm pretty excited about this new thing, I've been working on it pretty much every week day since February. It's been a lot of work, but very satisfying. Some of you know what it is, some have even seen the early version of it.

You are certainly H.A.R.D.core right now, I'll give you that! And hey, who got to see the early version that isn't me? Did we not discuss that on 'The Twitt' a while back when you started? My little project is no secret by any means, I just haven't publicly rolled it out yet.
Just have to finish the coloring on two and a half pages. I think I'll finish it up Thursday or Friday.
Totally counts. 'The Twitt' is where I post the most about pretty much everything going on in my life.lorddunlow wrote:I've seen bits and pieces as tweeted by Sean. Does that count?

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
I'm very envious of you creative/talented types. I can remember sitting next to a 14yr old girl at Fiddler's Green (it was a one-time Sandman convention - it was awesome!) who was essentially just doodling these awesome characters in her sketchbook, and just being flabbergasted at her talent - especially after seeing she wadded up several drawings that seemed just as good as anything that a professional had put to paper.
My brain's too technically/analytically skewed to allow any amount of creativity, but I sure am glad there are people out there like you guys so I get to enjoy all of these creations.

You might surprise yourself with what you can accomplish with some practice.lorddunlow wrote:My brain's too technically/analytically skewed to allow any amount of creativity, but I sure am glad there are people out there like you guys so I get to enjoy all of these creations.
One of the most influential books I've ever read is Talent Is Overrated, which describes the role that practice has in developing a skill. The short version is that some may have some talent, but talent really gets developed by deliberate practice. It changed a lot of my perspective to think of skill as a function of work, instead of a function of natural talent.
I totally get the technical/analytical stuff though. I'm an engineer during the day, doesn't get much more analytical than that.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
I guess I fulfill that creative desire, especially, practice to develop a skill with my Android tinkering. I REALLY enjoy hacking hardware with software to make it do things it wasn't designed to do. My next step would be to actually step into coding (which does require creativity), but I'm not there yet. I started by hacking my first TiVo to do awesome stuff that most DVRs do as standard nowadays, then I began messing with my Wii which was tons of fun. But, once I got my first Android phone I fell in love with software modding. The Android and Linux development scene is great example of how cooperative work towards a common goal can manage wonders. Everything is provided for free as a rule and the developers end up with products light years ahead of the major companies' dreams. It's funny how those same features end up as part of all the official OS build months to years later. I got a Nook Color for Christmas 2 years ago, and I would say fiddling with it takes up the majority of my free time - even more than comic books. It runs more up to date software than the tablets that just rolled of the line.

Nice. That's awesome. I've dabbled with code, mostly for the web, but I wish I had more time for that kind of thing. It's always satisfying when I write a little code, then it works as planned.

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Back to an on-topic issue (I know, atypical for me), I just started listening to 102 this morning, and the discussion of Telic had me thinking. While she is similar to a Jedi, she's much more like my favorite character from Season one of Alphas, Marcus Ayers. He could understand cause and effect at an alarming precision, to the point that he didn't see randomness or chaos. He knew just how to manipulate events to get a specific result. That's how I see Telic's power as working - she just sees how everything is put together and can instantly see the permutations of her every action which allows her to pretty much shape the immediate future to her will. She is by far my favorite new "power set" and I'm expecting her to be my new favorite supporting character (after Swiercynski went and killed Pulse just before he left
).

I would be mad too, but anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering, and that leads to the dark side. She is by far my favorite new "power set" and I'm expecting her to be my new favorite supporting character (after Swiercynski went and killed Pulse just before he left).
