Anyone reading The Massive or Fatale?

Was thinking of trying these out (Massive for me, Fatale more for the wife). Anyone reading who can provide some thoughts?

I picked up the first volume of Mind the Gap, but it didn't do anything for me. These are the next two on my list.

I like Fatale and have read all but the last issue that was put out. This books reads really well in trade form. The first five issues were great and definitely worth reading.

I read the first few issues of The Massive and didn't care for it. This was not a surprise as i do not like Brian Wood's work (it's not bad but not good either). I do know alot of people who like it. My LCS pushes it hard and thinks it is one of the best books being put out right now. My understanding is that if you like Brian Wood then you will love this book.

I read The Massive. I like it, a nice realistic slow burn story about sh*t that could actually happen. (But I'm glad it hasn't) The reason a lot of people probably don't like it, is probably because it isn't a Michael Bay film, full of needless action/explosions and stupid fights. The Massive is like Greenpeace meets The Day After Tomorrow. It's full of actual intellectual dialog (Gasp!) And character Development (Another Gasp!)

The Massive isn't like a lot of other stuff out there. It's not a quick read like most floppies. I enjoy the story in the front and the realistic backstory in the back.

its not my typical type of book, that's why I asked. Same goes for Fatale and noir books. Only seen good reviews out there, which tends to worry me sometimes, but peaked my curiosity.

Basically I am all VALIANT month to month, but I like trades to read in hand in between. Stuck waiting on the next trades of Saga and Locke & Key (which is ending after this volume), while I also await Vol 1 of Manhattan Projects and Hawkeye to arrive via DCBS.

I don't have the strength or motivation right now to catch up on books like TWD or Chew, though I'd like to and my wife has TWD Compendium 1 & 2. What I'd like to find are one or two titles that have 2-3 volumes out that I can easily catch up with.

I know that the first issue of Fatale is free on Comixology, so if you have an account there, it's worth checking it out. Read that issue and liked it, but didn't seem worth trying to follow or play catch-up. Maybe later on, but I have a weird Comixology buying pattern.

Yeah, that's kind of my opinion as well. I was going to say "Whale Wars where nothing happens" though.

I can definitely see how people are going to like this and it may be great long range, but it's not something that got my interest up at all.

TWD requires no motivation. I started reading it when I was on vacation this past December and I chewed through 30 issues just reading at night before bed. It's so compelling, you just can't put it down. I tend to avoid things that have massive hype around them, sometimes to my detriment. TWD was one of those things.

I am surprised you haven't read TWD. If your wife has the compendiums I would definitely suggest reading them. Its not like you have to read the whole thing at once after all. FWIW I am a bit behind on TWD as well (only read through volume 15 TPB, I don't buy the floppies for this series).

Your NPR citation makes me think of that really depressing woman that does the book and film reviews on Saturdays. If I had to listen to her while driving through a dense fog, I would probably lose all interest in life before I got where I was going.

Fatale is worth following, both yourself and your wife should enjoy it.

I wouldn't deem it a "great" book, per se, but it's solid and well-written.
