Ah yes, muddyness. The Eternal Enemy of the artist, lol!Reber wrote:Well it doesn't get rid of his work it just does away with the grey. Grey is not a color you want mixing with everything because It'll cause the pages to look real muddy. It's like if you were mixing paints you wouldn't add grey to your colors cause it'll just make everything grey eventually. I only do it in select areas though. Scenes like the deadside I'll leave them alone. Lot of books that use grey tones have this problem.grendeljd wrote: Does Patrick know you use a bag of dirty tricks to get rid of all his hard work?![]()
I work over and under the lineart.
I am finding that to be a bit of a problem with what I am doing, but I'm relatively new to digital colour. The one published piece I have done for a book cover turned out horrendously dark, and I'm still not sure what I did there for that to happen. It all looks fine on the monitor...
I need to do more over/under colouring as you are. There is an ocean of tutorials & learning material out there. I'm sure you get tons of requests for pointers - & I realize you don't do tutorials, but if you have any particular favourite learning materials you could point me towards it would be greatly appreciated!
*Edit: I just looked at your Batwing pages over at DeviantArt. Fantastic - you did the greyscale yourself as well, that looks awesome!

Hey!! Thank you very much for saying so, good sir! You make me blush. Like this:FormerReader wrote:grendeljd wrote:My bad, Brian - it was not a credit mishap, it was a 'my brain' mishap. You were listed as a cover colourist, not the interior. You're still a colouring machine, and absolutely killing it on Shadowman!!!Reber wrote:I didn't color Bloodshot. Not sure if there was a credit mishap. I most likely did a cover for it though.
I've been meaning to pester you on Twitter about how you are coloring that book. Does Patch send you his pages with layers intact, or are all those greyscales flattened? (I'm only assuming he does the greys on separate layers). I'm curious as I have started colouring my own b&w art digitally in the last year or two (take a peek at my deviantart link below if you feel so inclined).
As others have said above, so very cool to see you pop in here!! Welcome!!
I was just looking at your art Josh. You have some ridiculous talent!

Grendeljd - Check out the magazine ImagineFX. Tons of knowledge in it. I learn something new whenever I pick one up.
