Got something CRAZY in the mail today : X-O / SOLAR fans !!!
This is a super interesting piece to me, my two all time favorite comic book characters on a fully painted 11x17 piece by the most unlikely artist to do Valiant characters EVER, Joseph Linsner(Cry For Dawn guy). Got the original painted piece and the prelim sketch together from a guy who did not even know the characters, was a Linsner/Dawn collector. Cost me a pretty penny, but it's so crazy and weird, had to have it. There is even a "Dawn-like" character in the background (though it's not Dawn, who was always shown with hair over one eye and 3 tears down her cheek).
What do you all think?

Wow! Amazing piece, Ed!
This looks familiar. Do you know where it was published?
I think I seen this or something similar in a best of sci-fi/fantasy compilation art book several years back.
Nice score!

I showed this piece to Dinesh, who thinks this MAY be an unused cover to Unity : the Lost Chapter.

Re: Got something CRAZY in the mail today : X-O / SOLAR fans
It definitely looks like a Unity Lost Chapter page. I think there is a very similiar splash in that book by Mike Bair. I doubt it's an unused cover because it's too similar to an actual page that appears in the book (going from memory). I would say it's probably a homage but I'm guessing.
A ton of those Unity Lost Chapter pages by Bair appeared on CAF by his agent but now I don't see them and I can't remember who the agent is to check the website. Lemme look around or maybe someone has the book handy?
EDIT: Found it!

ha ha, that's why it seemed so familiar. I tried to buy that from Bair last year but the agent does not reply to any requests.Crow331 wrote: EDIT: Found it!

Re: Got something CRAZY in the mail today : X-O / SOLAR fans
I'm the reason all those pages are up and for sale. There are a lot more on that site. The agent is Steve Monger and the only way to get him to answer you is to contact him through CAF. Not sure if the regular email works or what but I did get him through CAF.
I inquired on several pages years back and his agent FINALLY got Bair to dig them up after months of harassing him. I thought they were way over-priced, especially for such a fringe Valiant book, and I ended up not buying any of them. I had to be the only person inquiring on them since it appears none were sold over the years and Bair didn't even know where they were at the time I inquired!

Same here, those pages are nice but I am not a HUGE Bair fan and those pages are out of control priced. I paid less for the full color painted page and the prelim.Crow331 wrote:I'm the reason all those pages are up and for sale. There are a lot more on that site. I asked about those same pages at least 10 years ago and he wanted crazy I mean CRAZY prices for them then.Crow331 wrote:I'm the reason all those pages are up and for sale. Ha! That's funny. Almost every single page out of 40 pages I think is still available for sale. I think 3 pages are missing on quick glance? Doesn't mean he sold them. He could have given them away, traded them, lost them, damaged them or whatever. So in 18 years he might not have sold a single page. You think an artist might figure out that the demand is not there or his prices are too high. Mind boggling.
You could also have the complete issue of the Bloodshot yearbook for $8,000

Side note: I had no idea that the cover to Unity The Lost Chapter was done by Bart Sears!

I happen to really strongly dislike his XO but there are a couple of Solar splashes that are fantastic, but at $1500 per page, those are 3x what they should be. I think i offered 1k for 2 pages, but never heard back. This was like a year ago.betterthanezra wrote: I also asked him about that Bloodshot Yearbook and the price is still the same after 15 years you would thing he would understand that supply greatly exceeds the amount he wants for it.

Re: Got something CRAZY in the mail today : X-O / SOLAR fans
There are definitely some nice pages/splashes but definitely over-priced. Maybe if these pages were from Quesada he could get these prices His XO looks better in in the original art than in the book. His backgrounds are really nice. I think the coloring on that particular book was not so great.
