I would buy anything about these characters, sadly.

The Return of Future Comics

Post by Ryan »

What do you guys think of them? I wasn't really overwhelmed by any of their series, but I did enjoy some of the single issues, so I might give the new digests a try.

From NEWSARAMA:

Featuring the return of Future Comics (now Future Entertainment) and our most popular creation in his first full-length adventure: DEATHMASK: VOLUME I

We told you it would be worth the wait and we weren't kidding. Future Comics has transformed into Future Entertainment and, with that change, we've adopted a whole new philosophy. We have strengthened our ties to the Hollywood community, expanding our scope to encompass all of the entertainment business. We're now better able to offer the great concepts and ideas that made Future Comics one of the most talked about companies of the past five years to the widest possible audience.

And, with that in mind, we turn to our most faithful audience. The comic book medium remains an integral part of the future at Future Entertainment and we are proud to announce our return to that venue with a special offer. For many months, you've heard the rumors and seen bits and pieces of preview art-but nothing else. That's because we were perfecting our plans to ensure you would get the absolute best comics experience for your dollar. After extensive testing of format, size and properties, we have settled on the $9.95 price point, the "manga-esque" trade paperback size, and DEATHMASK as our relaunch property. Certainly, the Mystic Marauder was the star of our initial monthly incarnation.

In anticipation of the forthcoming release of the first-ever DEATHMASK collection, DEATHMASK: VOLUME I will be made available exclusively to individual readers at the reduced price of $8.50 direct from Future Entertainment.

Not only that, but you'll get your collected edition signed by series co-creator, inker and company President, Bob Layton-- and we'll pay for the shipping. For only $8.50, you get a signed collectible featuring 112 pages of drop-dead gorgeous full-color Dick Giordano art. Dick Giordano has been a legend in the comics industry for decades and he's contributed his best work to date on DEATHMASK. Written by the venerable David Michelinie and featuring additional inks by Pat (MICRONAUTS) Broderick, this collection will feature the entire first story arc of the DEATHMASK saga, available for the first time anywhere!

But why stop there? We've still got a limited number of our first collection: the FREEMIND: BOUND VOLUME I, featuring the entire contents of issues #0-3. Originally retailing at $14.95, we are offering this classic collection for the same low price of $8.50, again signed by Future Entertainment President Bob Layton, who provided co-plotting and inking on this collection, and again with all shipping costs paid for by Future Entertainment.

And for those smart fans who pick up both collections for only $17.00, we'll not only pay for the shipping, have both signed by Bob Layton, but we'll also throw in a free full-color ashcan of FREEMIND #8. The original monthly series was suspended after issue 7, so this is the only way to read this never-before-seen chapter of our flagship title. You can read the continuation of another fan-favorite series with METALLIX #7, available free online at www.futurecomicsonline.com, under the "Previews" section and -there will be more to come!

Future Entertainment is back in a big way with a new attitude and new trade collections at a fantastic price. But, you'll want to order now, as this offer is for a limited time only beginning in May 2004. The DEATHMASK: VOLUME I trade will be available exclusively to individual readers beginning in May 2004, months before we offer it to retailers across the nation.

As part of our re-evaluation, we determined to return to self-distribution. So...once again-- Future Entertainment is the only comic publisher that is 100% independent. Tell your comic shop retailer to look for an informative packet arriving soon that will detail our terms. Or better yet, have them sign up on our website to ensure they don't miss the next mailing.

It's been awhile and we've missed you. We've come back just as eager and excited as we were when this whole adventure began. We appreciate your patience while we reorganized and look forward to bringing you the best in Entertainment far, far into the Future.

I enjoyed reading some of the issues and this price point is very nice (even if it is digest sized). Although, I have my doubts about their abilty to keep in business without using Diamond to distribute. A lot of comics retailers won't bother to deal direct and without the books in stores, a lot of potential readers just won't know to order it direct.
