Decade...what's your favorite?

Everything else comic-related that's not VALIANT-related.

What's your favorite decade for comics??

Mine is definately the 80's. To break it down I would say the early 80's.
The lines between good and evil were still black and white. That still brought (naive) innocence to comics.

Hated the early 90's though (except for Valiant stuff!).
The stories in all those issues sucked big eggs. Too much of an emphasis on art and the issue #, which always revolved around #1.

But yeah, 80's was my fave.

What's yours?

Marvel 61-71, the first ten years, about 1000 issues.

Probably redefined everything that has come since.

There are plenty of artists, writers and characters that have come since that also thrill and enjoy but the originals still rule.

Funnily the same answer applies for music and tv: what a decade.

Peter.

For Independent comics the 90's because the boom allowed for so many incredible small press, creator-owned, and self-published comics to come out that otherwise wouldn't have existed. Plus a few of the universe like Milestone and the ones by Jim Shooter were really, really good

For mainstream comics, nothing beats the 80's. Nearly every character I can think of had some sort of "hay day" or "classic" run in those days. And of course their was some nice vartiety in the main steam too with First and Epic and all that.

With the exception of the EC comics of the early-mid 50s, I'd have to agree with Pete.

Early B&W magazines from the 60's like CREEPY & EERIE are easily overlooked in this period. They had great stories & art from the best of the original EC staff plus (many others like Steve Ditko, Neal Adams, John & Marie Severin, etc.) The painted covers on many issues included some of Frazetta's best work ever.---Steve

The very beginning of the Stan Lee/ Jack Kirby years at Marvel, along with the re- introduction of the DC Heroes like Flash, Green Lantern etc.. and of course the beginning of the Valiant era.

Before that Carl Douglas tune came out, I would have never predicted in a million years that someone would have a hit disco Kung Fu song, go figure.

I'll have to say the 80's, since it's when I started collecting and seriously reading comics. Anybody else remember when Uncanny X-Men was GOOD? Claremont was a god back then... now he's so much *SQUEE* toilet paper on that very same title. At least Alan Davis' current art is nice.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
