Quantum and Woody and what is your favorite vh2/3 title

I have just started to collect VH2 book for completion and have been disappointed with most of the book with the exceptions of Shadowman and Unity. I just recieved a complete collection of Quantum and Woody I won off ebay. Boy was I surprised when I read it, It had me laughing at the first few pages. I think I like it more than the VH1 books. I wonder what issues 22-31 held. Without the old Woody who could bring some humor to these books.

Just wanted to see what is everyones favorite vh2/vh3 book and why. I just what to see if there are other gems like Quantum and Woody that I should pick up. Maybe I didn't give these books a chance.

You weren't alone.

Q&W is a great read. My favorite VH-2 book was, of course, BLOODSHOT, with ETERNAL WARRIORS and MASTER DARQUE right there in the mix (Q&W was probably 4th, but it was a close race). I've only found about 3 people who liked V2 EWs, but I enjoy the complicated, convoluted plot.

In many ways, the VH2 continuity was just as tight with small details. I interviewed Jeff Gomez once upon a time and showed him that at least one of us was paying attention. B3Studios used to have the interview online. I'm not sure if it still is or if someone (SonicDan?) might have rescued it (??).

VH-1 continuity was tight on the big things and a bit lax on the details (at least in the Shooter era). VH-2 continuity was tight on the details and goings on, while there were some big gaffes, mainly due to artists and a few editorial fumblings. But if you look at the books that Gomez edited, they were some of the most intricate comics I've ever read to date. And I miss them all very much.

Jeff Gomez and Kevin VanHook's editorial departures had (for me) the biggest impact on the continuities of VH-2 and VH-1, respectively. And while I certainly don't fault either of them for moving on to bigger and better things, I can't help but wonder what might have been.

Just one man's opinion.

Troublemakers - it seemed to be the best of various concepts, like having a disfuncitional Fantastic Four for a family and you are the test subjects or playing god with your own children or early days of Generation X or the New Mutants or a differnet take on the Harbinger theme!

My favorite VH2 titles were:

1) Shadowman V2, 1-4, 16-21; V3, 1-6

2) Deadside 1-3

3) Master Darque (all)

4) Quantum & Woody (all) arguably better as a odd couple/comedy book than was Archer & Armstrong in VH1.

Bloodshot was also a damned good read, once you got past the initial "not exactly the same" hurdle.

I guess to each his own. I won a troublemakers set off ebay and it was the first Vh2 books I read. I hated it with the one exception of issue #12. I wasn't going to read vh2 after that. Then I read a issue of Shadowman vh2 which I bought since it was only a $1. It wasn't bad and am trying to get the rest. I saw some people on the board mention Q+W was good, so I got a issue to test. I enjoyed it and had to have the set:) That's where I am now.

I was also wondering if there were sketches or an outline of what Q+W issues 22-31 held or for Shadowman V3 6-12? I know someone had posted an outline for what unity 2000 3-6 were about, which I read. Priest actually tells of what was going to happen to Q&W over the next couple issues over on his website...i think it's www.digitalpriest.com but don't quote me. I seem to remember him having an entire unpublished script up on his site.

Acclaim still has some new frames from some unpublished comics up on their website...they are fun to look at...

I loved Quantum and Woody...it was really the only post VH1 comic I collected...

Quantum & Woody was damn near the best book to come out of VH2. Master Darque and Darque Passages actually improved upon the character of Darque, Shadowman started well and then went south, Magnus had a few cool twists and all of the Solar stuff was exceptional. I liked Eternal Warriors to an extent, but at times it came off very Highlander-esque - inversely, the fold maps from EW are responsible for one of the best comics in history, H.A.E.D.U.S.

Quantum & Woody is (in my opinion) far & away the funniest Valiant book. Far funnier than Archer & Armstrong... I liked all the Master Darque books & all the Bloodshot books. Magnus & Eternal Warriors were average. Solar was entertaining if you didn't try to figure out how all aspects affected continuity. (**major headache**) For me though it has to be Shadowman vol2 16-20/vol3 1-6 that's the creme of the VH2/3 crop. Not too many issues, but (to me) as good as anything VH1 had to offer (including pre-Unity/Unity. Just because Shooter's name isn't all over it doesn't mean it isn't great. Just my thoughts... ~Erskine

I agree with most of the titles mentioned, a few more of my own are:

Ninjak - yes VH2 Ninjak, please don't stone me

. Sure the concept was silly, but I thought the comic was a lot of fun. Well written by Busiek with good art by Neil Vokes, it reminded me a lot of early Spider-Man.

Unity 2000 - I was having a good time with it until they pulled the plug.

Definitely feeling the Q&W love! One of my all time favourite Valiant books. If only there was a Q&W/JLI crossover!

I missed VH2 completely.

Can someone explain why there is no Q&W #22-31 but there is a #32? Time travel issue?

After the title had been on a hiatus, they published the issue that should have been published that month, before resuming the publishing as it was before.

Then, they went BACK to the 'last issue' and were planning on building up to it. But Acclaim pulled the plug. Priest actually has a few rants on it back on his old blog. Funny and sad at the same time.

This is almost exactly my list, although I never had any issues with Bloodshot and while I'm a HUGE XO fan, I did enjoy the VERY different take on the technology itself. I also loved the artwork in the otherwise pedestrian stories of the Eternal WarriorS quarterly.

Besides Shadowman, the Turok one shots are really good (especially the Turok/Shadowman book). The four issue Turok limited series though...not so much. I would also recommend checking out the Acclaim versions of Eternal Warriors, Bloodshot, Solar and Armorines. A lot people agree that Acclaim's Armorines was actually a better series than the original. Operation Stormbreaker was a great read as well.

Those are kind of second tier. Honestly, the only VH2 titles I actively disliked were Ninjak and Troublemakers. Yes, I even found some enjoyment in Trinity Angels.

I'm not convinced Busiek's writing was any good at all on that one. The whole concept was too Saturday Morning Cartoon, in a bad way, to fit what made Valiant, well, VALIANT.
