Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Just finished 79. And I must say I loved it! I think it's the best cast yet. And would love you guys to do more along that same line. I found myself laughing and chuckling a lot! (Seams fitting it was about A&A)
I was able to hang out with Van Lente for a decient part of the day Sat. And was able to do a quick 15 min OTV interview with him. (Audio recorded of course and it listens really well
) Fred is super easy to interview and it was a pleasure to hear him give some insight into A&A and some background into his life. ( we should get it up on OTV shouldn't we?
)

Just listened to 79... great work dissecting A&A 1, guys.
Funny stuff, too - loved the bit about the quick sellout of the 'first edition' of the Ten Commandments & the variant gold second print.

Despite their supposedly Anatolian roots, Gilad, Ivar and Aram are pretty Jewish names. And having grown up a native New Yorker, I have a zillion Jewish friends, to the point where I can say the prayer for the lighting of the Sabbath candles in Hebrew. Just don't ask me to spell "varitzivanu".Elveen wrote:Gi-LAHD........ surely you jest.jmatt wrote:Stop. Stop right there. Gill-id? Eye-var?

We've been getting a lot of positive feedback on the A&A commentary track episode (thanks!)
I think we'll do more of them.

Yeah, I just listened to the commentary and thought it was great. I found myself wanting to add to discussion and had to remind myself that you guys couldn't hear me.

Anyway, I'll add two of my thoughts here. These aren't really spoilers, but I'll block them just in case.
1. You guys discussed the Sandburg poem but didn't mentioned the part about the eighth game of the World Series. I found this minor detail interesting because it was a real event. Here is a link to the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1912_World_Series" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This World Series went 8 games because one game resulted in a tie, which can no longer happen in Major League Baseball. I enjoy references like this because we now know where Armstrong was on October 16, 1912, and we know who he was with.
2. You guys didn't like the fact that when A&A were locked up in the cell Armstrong was in chains and Archer was not. In fact, one of you said it was the worst part of the book. I have to disagree, and I think the explanation is quite simple. Armstrong says he's been locked up in that room before, which suggests he's also been able to escape. The Sect understands and has experienced Armstrong's strength in the past. The room itself is a cell, and therefore Archer is in fact locked up. Clearly The Sect was not expecting him to pick the lock, and they must have thought locking him in the cell would be sufficient, whereas they new the extra security of chains was a requirement for Aram. I just don't feel that it was an egregious error and wouldn't consider it worth labeling the worst part of the book.
I definitely got a lot out of listening to your commentary, especially all of the biblical reference that I could not be bothered looking up. Lots of research and fun facts there. Thanks!

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
To all the people involved in the show:
this may be a bit old, but i'd like to give you guys my sincere congratulations for the amazing interview with Robert Venditti. It was great to hear the amount of work and research that this man is putting into X-O. I'm catching up with all the past shows and i've just finished hearing this one.
Also, I'd like to ask for more of those Commentary Tracks, please.
Are you planning this for every #1, for example?

Thank you! We discussed this a bit tonight, and I think we will try to do this for "landmark" books, we are thinking the next commentary track will be for X-O #5 because of the first appearance of Ninjak, and maybe Shadowman #1 the month after that.ShadowTuga wrote:To all the people involved in the show:

Re: Only The Valiant Podcast
Finally got to read this month's books - Harbinger is definitely topping the read pile, but I enjoyed them all. To address the Faith in underwear issue - she's a big girl, those may have BEEN shorts. Some old Umbros she lounges in maybe. The Bloodshot cleavage panel was a) badly drawn and b) more gratuitous than probably intended due to the poor drawing. Full disclosure, I did not read Liberty Meadows for the humor.

This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.
