On Facebook I read that the $9.99 is the introductory price. I don't know if they meant just for this trade or if it was just for the initial release of this trade. Either way, I'm guessing later trades are going to cost more.

I doubt it, but I hope there is some kind of extra material to be an incentive to buy this. Otherwise, I'll probably pass.

Not saying it's too soon, just impressed by the momentum.

The best timing would've been to have it available today with issue #5.

4 x $3.99 = $15.96 so a $6 savings. It's a decent price for 112 pages, but I would also hope for some extras. At least all the cover art...that's another two dozen pages right there

That's true about the price, except that I already spend the $15.96 for four issues, so I would need more of an incentive to buy this. Also, the $9.99 is the "introductory price" of the trade, so I expect future trades will not be such a good deal.

But what I'd like to see might be some sketch art, maybe the covers, some unreleased stuff would be awesome but unlikely. What I liked about the original Valiant trades was that each came with a little comic and that was a nice bonus.

At $9.99 MSRP, I might just all together stop buying floppies. :D

It also does not include up to 30-35% discount from online retailers.

That's why I was strictly buying trades for about 2 years. I have been buying monthly via digital for about a year now, but if the digital prices don't come down eventually I will go back to trade-waiting.

Not soon enough! :( I just hope the print quality/coverstock is decent. A $17.99 Hard cover price would be an acceptable price to me even for just 4 issues... just saying... :?
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Glad its a trade. If they went to HC I'd be dissapointed. Hardcovers are too expensive. Hope this is a sign of future trades to be at low prices too. Their 4 old classics HC's were too pricey for the 7-8 issue content at most. So its 4 issues being reprinted? On facebook people thought it was the first 5 issues maybe, but the article on CBR clearly tells it. That ain't bad your actually saving compared to the issues. I wonder if this will be the only trade or will future compilations be at that price too? Or maybe at least any opening volume of the titles' trades? The only problem is they need to hit bookstores. They don't look like they will be. The hardcovers didn't reach beyond comic stores. Maybe because they don't have mass book distribution? This would add to their recognition and reach more potential readers if they did.

I believe they will be producing trades for each arc of each book for the foreseeable future. My guess is the eventual price will be $12.99 after this initial offering at $9.99.

Distributing to bookstores, etc would be a great way to gain more exposure and VEI should do it if they are able.

I think the first four issues are at 22 pages of story each, so that is around 88 pages. At 112 pages, we have 24 more pages which is just enough to cover all those covers. So most likely there is a sketch or two. Maybe a foreword/introduction. :)

I think the first issue was 32 pages.

NOW I might be willing to give this a shot.

I stopped collecting, but picking up a trade is easier and takes up less room than individual issues. :hm:

You can still purchase the X-O issues 1-4 for as low as $2.99 an issue on eBay for $11.96 plus shipping.

If the TPB is $9.99 MSRP then some stores like Impulse Creations, Midtown, DCBS can get these at $6.93 which is roughly 30% off. (Now that is a Steal)

I will start purchasing the TPB instead of the regular issues given if these will be the price points. I dont mind waiting a few months for them to come out. I believe you get more value with the TPB than purchasing individual issues for $3.99 even with the 20%-30% in some LCS.

I read TWD and I only buy the TPB or HC, never the regular issues.

As for Digitial Comics, I find it $ to spend $3-$4 per digital issue if dont actually own a hard copy. What would be really good is if Valiant decides to do a subscription service to all the Valiant titles .. say for a fixed price. sort of like a rental unlimited type of subscrption like Netflix or Rhapsody.

Agreed. Or at least by the time #6 hits shelves - that way you could potentially pull in more new readers who are casually browsing shelves. I think its gotta be appealing for them if they see they can grab an issue or two plus a cheap trade to catch up.

I hope they mean that 'introductory price' is the set price for the 'introductory' trade for XO, as having it that inexpensive will also lead to pulling in more new readers, which is far more valuable in the long run for Valiant than worrying about making money off that trade. I got sucked into The Walking Dead with a cheap first trade... it was only up to #18 at the time, and I've been following it monthly ever since. $10 is a solid price for 4 comics, especially when most of them were longer than 22 pages [as etos45 mentioned here, #1 was 32 pages, and I am pretty sure a couple others were 23-24 pages as well].

I prefer reading TPB's but i'll continue buying the "floppies" to make sure Valiant stays in business to make the TPB's.

at 9.99 I know what most of the people I know are getting for Christmas and Birthdays! I'm buying a huge stack of those bad boys.
