Even other pre-unities like X-O #4 and Shadowman #1 have definitely seen a bump since the launch.

Definitely. But that initial bump was big for some books, and then dropped off a little (or a lot for a few).

You and I were even talking about some of the $140-$145 sales when I had an X-O Manowar 1 coming back from CGC that landed a 9.8 WP. But by the time I received it back, the market had dipped already and it sold for $85. But that's more than I had into it, so no money lost.

Fine. So then, there is also tons of potential for time wasted for a handful of dollars. What is the point of that unless you have unlimited time and funds? And if you did, you'd be stupid not to invest your time and money on something that could get you more than a small chance at a couple of dollars.

I'm done with this as well. Until you put your money where your mouth is and start getting these commons slabbed and try to flip them.
That's just silly. I am putting my money where my mouth is. I'm buying the slabs. I've bought 25 commons in the last month alone.

No you aren't. You are buying up common slabs. Fine, that's great.

But you keep saying that people are guaranteed to make money by slabbing commons and flipping them in quantity. Start doing that, and then I'll admit you are right.

But you keep saying that people are guaranteed to make money by slabbing commons and flipping them in quantity. Start doing that, and then I'll admit you are right.
A) I said that people that have or come across high quality nm+/mint common raws are guaranteed money right now by slabbing "the right commons" or in making sets/ runs.

B) There are over 150+ comics that are in the guide at $1-$2 each right now that I would gladly pay $3-$5+ for 9.6 to 9.8 condition raws. If that person was still able to be contacted if I eventually got their comics graded, they would get an additional bonus if their comic(s) came back as a 9.8 or higher. I say if because I will probably buy 2-3 copies of each of the comics on my list and only submit the best 1 unless it's on my priority list, then I will submit the best 2 if I think they are both a solid 9.8. There's your proven profit right there.

Here's putting my money where my mouth is;

what I guarantee paid for raws on my list;

All NM+ raws minimum $3 each upfront if you are trusted by me as a fair and experienced nm+ grader.

When I receive the raws and review them I pay out any additional amount needed according to the following guide without even getting them graded, just by the impression they give me:

45k=/+ print run comics = $3 9.6, $4 9.6/9.8, $5 9.8,
Add an additional $1 for each comic in each grade with an estimated print run 20,000-44,000
Add an Additional $1 for each comic in each grade with an estimated print run under 20,000
Add an Additional $1 for each solid 9.8 comic that is currently in my priority list.

That means that if you have a comic that is in my priority list and I just think it is a solid 9.6-9.8, I'm going to pay you $4-6 for that raw comic even if it's a 9.6 without you ever even having to slab it. If I think your comic is a 9.9, I'm definately going to submit it and if it actually comes back as a 9.9, you are going to get $40-$50 from me as a gift.

There's your guaranteed profit.

Not so Generous when you consider that hundreds of people right now buy all kinds of cgc graded Valiant comics in various grades, every month on ebay for far more than I'm currently willing to pay. :P

After all this ongoing debate, it seems to me that some people here, no one in particular, might just be bitter about some prior losses or perhaps jealous that they don't have high grade copies to sell now that the market has turned with the relaunch.

If you don't collect certain comics in CGC, then your just never going to understand that people are willing to pay more for those comics in high grade.

Just like I don't understand why anyone in the world would pay a penny for a recent Marvel CGC slab of anything. :? :poke: :banana:

You HAVE YET to prove that someone is actually making money slabbing and grading commons. Until you show this crazy business model makes money, with documented sales/expenses, I don't believe a word of what you say. Have you ever run a business?

After all this ongoing debate, it seems to me that some people here, no one in particular, might just be bitter about some prior losses or perhaps jealous that they don't have high grade copies to sell now that the market has turned with the relaunch.
If this is directed toward me I can assure you I'm up long-term on both my CGC buys/grade/flips, as well as my regular buys. Many I have no desire to sell (my #3 Maxx Black for example I bought for $150 and have been offered over 1k), others I just hold onto as doubles, extras, etc. But here's an example...a number of years back I bought two raw CEARS from the same seller, both at approximately $100. One graded 9.6, I sold that one for $230, the other graded 9.8, I sold that one for $400...I only sold the 9.8 because I decided I didn't want to keep slabs in my collection (along with about half the valiant variants I had in 9.8, some bought but most I slabbed myself).
If you don't collect certain comics in CGC, then your just never going to understand that people are willing to pay more for those comics in high grade.
Jesus christ...are you even reading the posts in this thread? When I have ever said there's no market for Valiant books? We're talking about commons, you know those $1 books almost no one cares about. So far you're the only one who has gone on record of saying you want to pay the costs for the all these graded commons. The only real sale/liquidation we had of these was by a large collector here on the boards that sold his for a horrible loss.
Just like I don't understand why anyone in the world would pay a penny for a recent Marvel CGC slab of anything. :? :poke: :banana:
I'm sure there's a lot of Marvel/DC commons that are a wash as well, and how is that different than a common Dr.Mirage? You think the market of buyers is larger in the latter?

You and others are taking things I say and running with them in the opposite direction even though I've explained them multiple times already in different ways.

I never said anyone could run a business, I said the opposite. I said that people who had a number of copies of different commons that they were confident were high grade, could make a little money right now having them graded because there are people out there willing to buy them if they are the right copies or they can make runs of them.

The Marvel comment was meant to show that it's the same principle for Marvels. I think they are near worthless to me right now. I wouldn't spend my money on a modern marvel slab. Others apparently do not share my opinion and people buy Marvel slabs all the time.

You apparently have the same view of Valiant commons. You would not buy them so you try to say that no one would buy them. You use one single example of a person taking a wash quite some time ago to try to justify your position that Valiant commons that are not on the market would lose money today if they were graded.

If that were the case then people would be selling their 9.8s for $15 or less just to try to recoup some money. Even Iggy is asking $26 per comic BIN + shipping which is a great price for those comics in my opinion and I guarantee he would sell those at that price in the next 12-24 months if someone doesn't take the $20 per comic bid option first, which I guarantee will happen if he keeps offering it.

Yup. And only 3-4 known copies, I'm one away from the set of all 12 ashcans.....sure The Maxx is not nearly as popular as some of the mainstream titles, but again, when you talk about something so rare as only a few copies, it just takes two people to get in a bidding war...case in point, someone paid almost 3k for one of the Wizard 1/2 prototypes.

I saw some under "valiant cgc" closed items. A couple board members sold some interesting lots. Iggy sold a lot in the last few days I think he's been offering for sale for awhile, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure if he dropped his price or not. There's another fairly sizeable lot under that search that sold in the last few days too.
