What comics are you reading now?

Everything else comic-related that's not VALIANT-related.

Same, I'd not read it before. Really great fun and a perfect companion to Morrison's SuperGods.

Along with Birds of Prey in the New 52 lot I bought, were issues of Batwing and Red Hood. As I said, I liked BoP, but I had no expectations (or maybe low expectations) for the other two. I ended up enjoying the Batwing issues. Those are the first Winick written comics I've read, and I thought he did a good job weaving backstory in and keeping the main story flowing. The identity of the main villain has been apparent since issue 2 or 3, but it hasn't taken away from the story for me.

Red Hood, on the other hand...looks and feels a lot like where I left Lobdell and the X-Men 20 years ago. And there's a reason I left them. Well, 2 reasons: I did not like them, and Valiant.

I got the 1st issue of Red Hood and threw it in a crumpled heap after reading it.

Really? It's one of my favs.

How far along are you?
I'm in the middle of the fourth trade now, around issue 20 or so.

I won't be continuing to read this when I'm done with the trades I already bought. It drags on and on without getting to the payoff. I don't have time for this.

If this was a 36 issue series or something, and would just get to whatever it's getting to, I'd probably like it a lot more.

Scarlet Spider #3. This book is pretty dang good. The story is strong, but the art is FANTASTIC! So fantastic that Stegman is going to be taken off the book and put onto FF. That sucks because I won't read that book for anything. Stegman's work reminds me of Ottley who is my favorite super hero artist.

Scarlett Spider #4 was pretty good too. I always liked Kaine, since his first Appearance way dafuq back in Web of Spider-Man 119.

Amazing Spider-Man #684 - Part 3 of the End of Earth story. I started picking up Spider-Man about a month back just to see what it was like nowadays (I've heard alot of bad things with BND and all that jazz). But I'm loving this current story, really fun huge scale and looks awesome.

Batman #8 - I know everyone is raving about it but I thought this issue was meh really. The main story was enjoyable and heading towards even better things I suspect. But the 8 page backup was pointless, it was an advert for the rest of the Bat universe with inconsistent art. First let down in this series for me.

Justice League #8 - Good and Bad. Green Arrow is a d!ck. Martian Manhunter is just not the character he was. But there were some little interactions between Bats and Hal and the way it cruised through the use of Boom tubes and dispatching enemies like Amazo was fun.

Hellblazer #290 - End of the current arc and as always awesome. Constantine is just one great character to read however big or small the story.

I still have Fables and Manhattan Projects #2 to read, really looking forward to the latter.

lately Image has been releaseing some insanely great books. Been hard to keep up with it almost. I'm just glad I haven't missed out. I had to run around town to get a damn copy of
Saga #2 cause my LCS sold out, and didn't put it on my Pull-List, even though I had said to. Grr, but I found it and got 2 copies.

Manhattan Projects 2 didn't excite me quite as much as issue 1. It is still bizarre and interesting, but wasn't as compelling. For starring Richard Feynman, It wasn't very Feynmany to me.

Just read Nightstreets #1 from Arrow Comics. Perhaps not as polished as most comics issued from the big two, it exemplified why I love 80s black and white comics. The black and white pages added to the noir effect, and it took about half an hour to read, including the two pages of editorial backdrop. The story was solid, and I went ahead and picked up the rest of the series via mycomicshop. It went 5 issues. Caliber also printed two Nightstreets trades, the second of which reprinted issue 5, and new content. That second trade is 128 pages, and I bought that too. There must be lots of new content to reprint just one issue and total 128 pages.
I'm looking forward to reading the letter Harlan Ellison had published in issue 2.

Been reading a lot lately.

Fatale #1-3 - i really like this series. I like the noir, mystery, occult angle. Brubaker is kicking butt.

Theif of Theives #1 - didnt care for and was notmy thing.

Peter panzerfaust #1 - didnt care for it and wasnot my thing.

Winter Soilder #1-3 - I surprising like this series. I am always skeptical of spin-off series and this has been good. Definitley better than The current captain america, which has been a disappointing read.

Scarlet Spider#1-3 - same comment as winter soilder. I really dig this. The story is simple, the art is great and i like the characters. I also like that Kaine's image does not remind me of peter parker (its similar, but not the same).

Rachel Rising #1-7 - i have never read Terry Moore comics before and really like this series. I might start reading this series in tpb form, as after i read a single issue i want more.

Walking Dead 96 - All i can say is wow. We have some really awesome stories coming our way. It is going tonget interesting.
Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

I've had dealings with Randy Zimmerman of Arrow and Caliber. Really personable guy. Quality stuff for such a "local level" publisher, both Arrow and Caliber. I saw a full set of Caliber, recently, and I mean 1 of EVERY book they every published.

I can ask next time I see him, sure. Seems to be about once a month I bump into him at one of the local shops. He's actually been pretty busy running a monthly trade-zine. All "local" stuff, but some nifty things, nonetheless.

ASM has been excellent for a long time now. I enjoyed BND, but I can see why others were turned off with all the changes. If you could get past the changes, it's good stuff.

However, since issue #648 (Big Time), it has been absolutely awesome! I'd recommend starting there. If you like fun comics, you should love it.

I don't have #8 yet, but I'm not over-thrilled with this series like most. I'm getting more and more convinced that I just really don't like Batman at all. Why? I can't relate to the character in any way. He was born rich. He has no friends or family aside from a butler and all the Robins. He has no consistent love interest. Aside from the bad guys and the Robins and Alfred and Commissioner Gordon and his daughter, I can't think of any other characters in that book. Certainly no regular, everyday people. I like the *SQUEE* Grayson Batman stories better.

Spider-Man has a great supporting cast of regular friends around and has love interests. I think that's why I've always liked Marvel moreso than DC. DC has no connection to the real world (in a comic book sense).

Kirkman did an interview recently about the fact that the first 100 issues were about surviving. Now, it's going to be about rebuilding. If that's really the case, I think that's great. Issue #96 definitely took a step in that direction. This Jesus character and The Saviors sound pretty interesting.
