Would have liked Solar and Magnus to be involved from the start but don't think either are necessary now. I agree there is no void to be filled.

1) JMATT's sentiments echo my own, though maybe more eloquently. +1
2) Sorry grendeljd but any story over 15 years old can't be spoiled
3) Who is this "Ice Cream Man" and how did he become so powerful

Wouldn't we have to dig up lots of Image character bodies to redo Deathmate anyway? screw it make that little kid in Harby uber powerful like Solar and he can start deathmate 2: Electric Boogaloo. then we can see the Chewking Dead fight against the new Valiant Universe.Phoenix8008 wrote:Wait, wait, wait! I will miss Magnus more than Solar.
I loved the stories set in the future and their connection to the present time in the original Valiant.

Re: The Loss of Solar: Revamp or Original Character?
Agree completely. Magnus was amazing early on. The Magnus Rai flip book was what hooked me. The Japanese dragon rising up to fight the spider aliens was the most epic scene I had ever experienced up to that point. That just wouldn't have worked in the present. In future stories you can get away with almost anything, cause who knows what's possible 2000 years from now?Big Red wrote:I will miss Magnus more than Solar.

I agree. We still don't know how Rai will fit into the new Valiant books. The signs seem to point to it not being a book set int the future, but the potential is there with blood of heroes to go that route if they want to.Big Red wrote:I will miss Magnus more than Solar.

Agreed as well. Although I think I would be happy with a future story even with Magnus and Rai. Well maybe we need Rai.

Re: The Loss of Solar: Revamp or Original Character?
Hey you guys, I'm a new reader and I've been slowly getting into VALIANT since the new relaunch started. I've picked up all the new books to date and I'm having a blast with the world budiling that seems to be coming our way and the amazing concpets. My favorite books so far is X-O with Harbingers coming a close second. I've even manged to get a whole bunch of digital version of VHI from a friend and having been reading my way towards Unity.
Solar, Man of the Atom, I have to say is my favorite series from the old VALIANT and would love to see a version of Phil Seleski in NuValiant. I love the whole concept of a quantum physics hero and the metaphysical aspects of the character, which is a rarely explored nowadays. What impacted me most about the first 11 issues that I've read so far, especially Alhpa & Omega and #1-4 is that Phil Seleski is how I would imagine a superhero to be created in the real world and his identity struggle with the Solar archetype.
I've read up on the whole Golden Key rights thing and know its pretty much an impossibility at this point, but can't they still use Phil Seleski? I agree with most sentiments that they are not needed with everything that seems to be planned but I can't help feeling that a Solar-like character is missing in this new universe. If all the stories that were written with Phil Seleski where original and the NuValiant crew said they are open to revamping characters, why can't they create a new identity for Seleski? In-universe he only took up the identity of Solar because he read the comic as a child, why can't they create a fictional comic book hero identity for him to draw inspiration from? Why can new the Phil Seleski have grown up reading Dr. Atom, or Alpha, Man of Tomorrow instead of Solar?
We can lose Solar sure, but we don't need to lose Phil Seleski or his stories.

Welcome And I think you have a point about maybe using Seleski as another similar type character. i'd be cool with that. I just don't feel though that the New Valiant automatically needs Magnus and/or Solar. They can live without it.[STRUCTURE] wrote:Hey you guys, I'm a new reader and I've been slowly getting into VALIANT since the new relaunch started. Technically the same idea of characters of solar and magnus could both come back with new names as their alter egos since they have thier own distinct origins. Turok is the only true out at this point.
I say Valiant should bring Phil back, for the sole reason that with Phil back... ANYTHING could happen.
But he should be brought back with Quantum and Woody debut issue 150 that comes out before issue 22 does next year.

Yeah, it would be nice to see the character return, but with the close link to Solar, it's probably for the best to steer clear.FormerReader wrote:Welcome! Someone on another board suggested a book staring Phil and Erica Pierce that VALIANT could just call Alpha and Omega. Pretty good idea, actually. It could explore two different ways in which humans deal with god-like powers.
Or Phil gains the same powers, but this time becomes his favorite childhood comic book hero.....Quantum! And Erica's see-through pajamas give him a Woody
