Wait... you know what might work? :hm: Posting the answer here. :thumb:

Q for Peter Cuneo, what brought you to Valiant, and what are your goals?

Peter: it is very important to own and control characters. At marvel [we] owned thousands of characters.
Peter: [we] were impressed by how Jason and Dinesh cleared up the ownership of the characters.
Peter: when [we] found Valiant made the effort to thoroughly own the characters outright, [we] were excited.
Peter: Comic book publishing is a great business. [Valiant] had to wait to get the quality of creators they have now.

(the [ ] edits are my attempt to take third-person twitter notes and turn them back into Peter's probable wording)

Thanks for the assist on the edits.

I spent pretty much the entire panel typing as fast as possible on the tiny keyboard on my iPhone, and by the time I was half way through typing something, someone had said something else I wanted to send out.

I am sure some of the tweets are less than grammatically sound.

I would assume the former, meaning 10 books by 2 years after the launch.
I could of swore that Fred said 18 books by year 3 was a good number or something to that effect.

He also said there would be another title by year's end, which I believe is Eternal Warrior and a 6th title by April. Rai I suppose.

I asked him about Shadowman and Master Darque and he really wouldn't tell me anything other than they are coming. I said how soon? and he just repeated they are coming. I asked him if Darque might make an appearance even before Shadowman does and he wouldn't answer that either :!: Maybe the boys at the poker game will get more out of them after a few beers :D Fred did like my vintage Shadowman t-shirt. He said that he gave one to Josh the intern I think. He said it's highly coveted in the office.

I got my gold! neener, neener  That was nice of Valiant. Good to meet some of you guys finally. Brian (betterthanezra) hosted the panel and did a nice job
18 books by year 3! God I hope not. I mean, I wish Valiant all the success in the world, but that seems like way too much too soon. Espescially in the current market place. Unless they are including limited series and crossover/event titles in that number, I wold say 10-12 titles in 3 years would be amazing and workable. 18? I don't know...that would concern me a bit.

Fred said they plan to have 6 books by the end of the first year (by May 2013), then 4 new books a year after that, so 10 books by May 2014, 14 books by May 2015, 18 books by May 2016.

Compare this to the original Valiant, which had 16 books by 1994, it's about the same, plus or minus a book or two, as O.G. Valiant.

OK. That clarifies it much better. I think that is a fair number and, of course, plans can always change for good or bad.

I would also say this means Valiant will be coming up with new characters to star in some of these books sooner rather than later.

Summary up at CBR quotes Fred as saying 15 books monthly is the goal. We are assuming we know the next 2 but apparently Elveen knows something we don't... :hm:

Also interested in the proposed team book led by a female...HARD Corps with new characters maybe? Secret Weapons with Hardwire? A new team all together?

Love that Zircher homage cover. 1:50, huh? Hmmm... I'm still tempted :)

I also thought it was a neat flip that Ninjak was making his first appearance in the new XO 5 when XO made an appearance in the original Ninjak 5.

Oh, and that was a great (!) CBR article - so much more to get excited over for the future of the new VU! And very cool that Brian was mentioned in it, kudo's to you!!

Valiant announced a long term, three-year goal of publishing around 15 monthly titles. "We don't want so many titles that there's not enough time to absorb it or for the retailers to know how many to buy. We can't have too few, because then you aren't taken seriously in the market place," Pierce said. "Before the end of the year, you'll see another launch, and in April 2013, another launch. We're planning on doing not more than four new books a year, but we're not sure what the limit is.
I like this, I think it's solid planning to add slowly...I can't even fathom 15 monthly titles at 3.99 though.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter
