Anyone collect these? Where is the best place to buy HC's for a good price? Are the first editions more collectible?

That's an Escaflown4 price! Regular people have to pay $25Escaflown4 wrote:The cheapest I find them so far is still on ebay. I just bought a first edition of Marvel Masterworks Vol 3 which reprints X-Men #1-10 for $16 including shipping.

I can't pass judgements on the traditional line of Marvel Masterworks, but several months ago they released the first goldenage masterwork collection which reprinted Marvel Comics #1-4. As much fun as it was to read the original stories....it wasn't worth the money. Why? You ask...well its simple. Some tard-monkey got the stupid idea of digitally recoloring all the issues. And i've seen what the originals look like, the originals looked better. And thats not a retro enthusiast biast, the recoloring was done by a friggen amateur. The images are pixelated and jagged, and the coloring has genuinly taken a step down in quality. Bill Everet's amazing work is ruined in this copy. THe silverage ones I heard were fine though...

I read a similar complaint in a review in a COmic Buyer's Guide from a couple of months ago.cptfishstick wrote:I can't pass judgements on the traditional line of Marvel Masterworks, but several months ago they released the first goldenage masterwork collection which reprinted Marvel Comics #1-4. I love the Masterworks, but then I had the originals of a lot of them and they bring back all those great memories of your youth.
There are definitely differences in the reproduction. I haven't seen the Marvel Comics edition but in general they are fine, if a little bright in the colours compared to the original comics, when they were printed on a coarser paper than the stuff we get monthly today. Even the Masterworks colours can vary from one printing to another: I picked up FF vol 1 when they came out in the 80's and by the time I got vol 2 in the last year the first Annual had moved from v1 to v2, so I had two versions. The colours are quite different.
Probably the best stocked shop on the web is Talesofwonder.com, I have had several deliveries from them with no problems, and great packaging. Highly recommended.
Cheers,
Peter.
