So, I am finally starting on my Valiant binding project through Herring & Robinson Bookbinders. I am doing complete Solar, XO and the Barry Smith issues of A&A.

I am doing the "custom cover" type binding, not the traditional type, just to see how they come out. They bind the books, and then send you sizes for each part of the cover, and you make custom designs, which they print and put on the cover. Here are my first 3 cover designs, X-O vol 1-3. BTW, big thanks to Steve Topper for providing me with his original templates.

And the rest of them, as posted below. Thought they would look better together.

Got my books today, total cost including shipping and a few extras, was $175.

Here are some photos:

Cool, well chosen covers. And the back cover makes it really clear what's included.

Thanks, man. Those are my 3 favorite XO covers of all time, by my favorite ALL TIME Artist, BWS, my favorite X-O artist, Sears, and the Quesada cover is just wicked.

Solar has a lot of cover choices, I will have to look for what's available in large images online.

one question, what happens with pages that have ads on the back? Are the ads stil there? Or do they rescan and get rid of them?

The "guts" of these hardcovers are the original comics themselves. Nothing new is created, except the outer cover.

About $20 per volume, plus special additions I made, black paper, and other stuff, probably will end up $25 per. SO worth it :)

The ads that have comic pages on the other sides are still there, the ones that had ads on both are all out. Covers were stripped too, and included at the end in chronological order.

Wow. That is really tempting! I'm loving those books. Great job on the design. I've seen other Valiant hardcovers, but these are my favorite by far. Much richer graphicly. If I decide to go this route, would you be willing to share the templates as well?

Thanks!

Of course, I got my inspiration and the original template files (which I only used for the images on the back covers) from another member here.

Though they require a lot of work in a good graphics program because the company sends you a file with EXACT dimensions, so you have to recreate a particular size file and then do design, for each volume. A bit time consuming, and requires some basic Photoshop knowledge (and software).

Amazing! I had no idea it could be so affordable or well done!

How long until you will have the finished copies?

So, for around $25, you get basicaly 23 or so comics in a beautiful hardcover? Or are you just selling the cover itself, and fans supply their own comics to be included?
Sorry, I'm a newbie to all this, not up on everything. Help a newbie!

You supply the books and send them to a bindery and the $20 to $25 pays the bindery to turn your stack of individual comics into a nice hardcover book per the design you've chosen in advance. There are shipping costs as well. So you've got the costs of the comics, bindery materials and services fees, shipping fees, and your time. Hope that helps and welcome to the board. :thumb:
